I think a lot of the Blue Prince annoyance early on has to do with mindset. Try to think of it less as a grid you're playing deckbuilder cards into to "win", and more as a bunch of interleaved worlds, like you'd explore in Myst. Rather than assuming a goal, just explore whatever world you find.
