Is this a severe breach? Probably not. Does this raise questions ab how DOGE is securing access to more sensitive systems? Probably.

Yeah I do see the argument for long-term or for industries you're trying to give a boost to (like tariffs on foreign EVs so US auto EVs have a chance) but seems silly to do it on everything all at once cause no chance to build up industry?

So it seems like this is both worse for companies (lower profit) and increases prices (inflation) which seems... bad? Am I missing something?

Today it's federal employee data at OPM. But tomorrow it may be your data (and whatever that controls) - the Treasury, Social Security, IRS, etc.

I like Postgres. I think Sqlite is cool. But I think Postgres works great and is the more scalable option long term. I do like the stuff SQLite is doing these days so this decision may change in the future. More thoughts - Postgres over Everything - hamy.xyz/blog/2024-09...

A bit of all the above which makes Giraffe a bit less appealing to me. I still think it's a great web framework but was ready to try smth new and with the recent upgrades in the rest of the ecosystem I was excited to try one of them.

Yeah this is my experience. I know there's a limit to this so if you need like 10x throughput you may need to think through this at the base level of the architecture. But in MOST cases hot path optimization is sufficient and usually costs way less to build.

I still like the phrase "Make it work, make it right, make it fast" It's too simplistic but I think it does set the right priorities. Performance is only an issue if it's a problem. So yeah don't write slow code but often okay to revisit it later IF it is actually a problem.

"Unacceptable" is relative I think. Like yes this broke a ton of stuff BUT will people actually move to another provider. There's lots of other providers out there - GitLab, Bitbucket to name a few. My guess is this 1h outage is painful but few will actually switch.

Also I get that it costs $100 per year vs other free alternatives. But if you actually use it to budget each transaction you'll probably save way more than $100 per year.
