Also cool: said faux movie teaser was itself based on a very early trailer for the game

Well, I've been trying intermittently for years to land the Ayami Kojima aesthetic with... limited success 😅

I forgot that I did a Nomura-style one, too. I believe I actually did this before the others

All the time. Some are just too close to common image gen styles, and others have bizarre inconsistencies, like... I can tell they were trying to fix something the machine screwed up but they didn't have the fundamentals to fix properly.

I say go for whatever lets you enjoy making your art.
I love default brushes myself. Essentially everything I draw after sketching is done with the g-pen, real g-pen, mapping pen, and soft airbrush.

It's been a while, but Modern History TV and Knyght Errant. MHTV is more focused on general medieval history but he has some great armor focused vids. KE gets more in-depth on European armor with vids on specific pieces.
If you watch these you'll prob start to see more show up in your recs haha

Something I've found helps for learning to draw realistic armor is youtube vids from armor aficionados. Especially vids where they put it on piece by piece. Really helps to see how it's all put together, and being able to see the more complex pieces in motion helps me visualize the shape better

What kind of fantasy? Like Lodoss-style anime armor? There's a Legend of Langrisser artbook that you can find on archive.org. I find the 90s and 2000s Fire Emblem games and TCG are a pretty good source of refs, too. And the mobile game has a lot of pictures of these characters from different angles

How about... Kaoru Yamazaki (Pulstar) for SNK and Simone (Cannon Spike) for Capcom?

I like seeing Guy back there. Definitely wondering why his future sister-in-law dragged him along to a sleepover with a horde of eligible women.

lmao, yeah, that might clash a bit
Though, now that I think about it, I want to say the Varia *was* bright pink in Metroid 1 🤔

I love how much you cram into pieces like these. Endless little things to look at. Just beautiful.

Thanks! The aesthetic I shoot for is the kind of key art you'd see in 90s anime and game marketing so I'm glad that comes through
