It's back door deals that worry me too, especially witnessing the shitshow in Alberta health care recently. I worry Danielle Smith is doing similar deals to Ford.

In all this chaos it feels like something I can control. And I'm always looking for more ideas too! I also added physical roadmaps to the bags now in case internet is down.

My daughter does back country hiking and the ideal for sending texts in an emergency via satellite is a Garmin messenger. But you still need a subscription. I've also got walkie talkies on my list. There are smaller/portable solar generators available these days although they're not cheap.

Nice. I really started taking this seriously when we had to pack for wildfire evacuation. I'm building more extensive kits now, adding road maps, more first aid supplies, food, etc.

They know climate change is real and resources will become even more scarce, even if their cult won't accept it.

I have a flashlight/radio/charger combo that checked a few boxes at once. Need to get another probably too just in case.

All fascists love to rewrite things. Besides overt censorship, AI slop is also polluting our information pool. Books and documents can provide proof of changes to information later and have generally been fact checked. We need to preserve words and facts any way we can.

To conclude, here’s a short reminder on how MEI works:
1) get rid of “traditional media” with lawsuits and threats
2) remove all guardrails & safety measures
3) promote and fund Elon's allies, silence enemies
4) play the algorithm
5) blame resistance as censorship

David Parker sure seemed smug about it.

One last thing. I should probably remind everyone Samantha Steinke is the VP of Comms for the UCP.

And here is where I point out Samantha Steinke is also the twice elected VP of Comms for the UCP. What a communicator eh?

"The people must never know we still didn't budget to fix that pot hole on main street!"
Honestly I don't know, but I agree it makes them look incredibly suspicious.

So does Peace River, Grande Prairie, etc. Every council I've ever covered.

No date for a promised future town hall about the plans for a new combined school and library has been set yet.

As reported by the 5th Estate, Valleyview's council does not livestream or record even their public meetings because they're scared of future legal action. They also don't publish their budgets. They seem allergic to any transparency and public accountability.

Todd Loewen said a simple "Hi" to Travis from the doc and spoke with one library supporter. He was there, but he certainly wasn't winning any votes either.

That's mostly where I stop in Valleyview too, on the way to Edmonton. 😂 Tall Timber was wonderful for coffee and company before the community division over the library shut it down. Sigh.

I've covered a lot of local council meetings around the Peace and seen Mayors and CAOs address the elephant in the room even in the midst of controversy by simply being human and acknowledging the crowd. My read on tonight? Valleyview town council panicked and hid.

They basically panicked and hid.

They essentially got frozen out from council even after Sam Steinke's invitation. Over an hour and a half in camera then adjourned? She obviously didn't expect them to actually show up. So it'll be up to the community to keep up the energy. For now, at least council saw they care.
