I think the only rules that are important are the internal rules of the story/world, purely just to keep consistency (stuff like a consistent magic system for example), everything else can be flexible and challenged, and a lot of the fun of writing IS in challenging conventional norms. ^_^

I think a biggest deciding factor is HOW they get their wealth. The vast majority of the 1% never earned a penny of it, it was already in the family, they donât appreciate itâs value, or how worse off people in poverty are, because theyâve never known life without it.
