We’re all pronouncing this “BLUE-skee,” right? Progressive Texan, academic-ish, Gen X. A tiny bit obsessed with my dog. She/her.

Democratic Leaders Stand Real Still In Hopes No One Notices Them theonion.com/democra...

Amplify this more. Elon has no ability to assess downstream consequences of his decisions because he knows nothing about govt besides what can be fed into an algorithm. Really smart people have residency t for what they don’t know. The willingness to learn is a key quality of the truly brilliant.

Featured post: “All in all, this concept is so bad that it has an excellent chance of passing the Legislature. Much as we would like to help the rest of the nation by demonstrating once more just how stupid ideas work out in practice, couldn’t we give this one a miss?”

As an offshoot of this thread, let’s talk about what happens if federal, state, or local officials text, email, call, or show up at your door wanting to talk to you about what you said about the President. I have a theme, a thesis, a throughline, a leitmotif, which is SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH. /1

Dear Mr. Bezos, I write to pitch you my op/ed about how private equity dominance is an egregious corruption of the “free market” you love so much, and benefits the personal liberties only of billionaire executives. In this essay, I will…

Whaddayagonnado

I have maintained subscriptions to the NYT and WP despite their problems, but this is a bridge too far for me. Heads up, @mrcdfw.bsky.social.

New — HHS just got another email with guidance stating that they aren’t required to respond to the 5 bullets email, but if they do they should follow specific guidelines including: “Assume that what you write will be read by malign foreign actors and tailor your response accordingly.”

Can’t help but be reminded of the words of Russell Vought, now head of OMB: “We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected because they are increasingly viewed as villains. We want to put them in trauma.”

Chancellor Crystal Hines Martin of Hinds County, Mississippi has issued a prior restraint order so ludicrously unconstitutional it’s only consistent with deliberate misconduct or abject ignorance of the relevant law. Disgraceful and lawless. /1

Professors please pull up a chair. I’ve been talking to my classes about what has been going on. I explained indirect costs to them. I talked to them about what a probationary employee is in the government. At the end of class they asked if we could talk about it more. (1/)

House Republicans released a draft budget that aims to cut $2 trillion in spending. The programs impacted could include Medicaid, SNAP, and education programs. Why the cuts? To finance another round of tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. It's reverse Robin Hood.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

😂😂😂

I think Kendall Roy would love this halftime but miss the point.

Yep

(probably working with lobbyists & counsel to strategize actions and lawsuits to counter illegal freezes, rather than picking very public fights with a lawless dictator who relishes them and has a thirst for retribution)

There are a bunch of “that’s what they voted for” in the comments and I am once again reminding you that kids did not vote for anything. Kids cannot help having dipshit parents, and kids will be the ones suffering. I understand that excising empathy feels better but come ON, y’all.

Ahem, @mrcdfw.bsky.social

Take the time to watch to this video. It well worth the few minutes. An unstated arc in this response is the importance of learning and understanding history.

As I’ve said, it’s a frustrating time to be a scholar of the Progressive Era.

Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

West Point orders certain student groups to disband in compliance with Trump EO. The list includes Asian-Pacific Forum, National Society of Black Engineers, Native American Heritage Forum, and Society of Women Engineers. Reporters covering mil, defense, natsec beats... seems like a big deal.

My vocabulary is not exactly limited, but everything I can think of to say about (or to) this man is exceptionally profane.

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad. There’s not.

oh no please don't give them the idea to rap

Welp. Glad I had some excellent guacamole today.

I'm struck by the near-total failure of leadership across civil society, in a country that fetishizes the concept. Whole sections of leadership books at every bookstore. Named, endowed "leadership" institutes and curricula across higher ed. Awards and special recognition for "leaders." AND YET

Same

“The party running against the 3rd Reich wasn’t that great either” is how so many people sound. Like just stop talking! Shut the fuck up!

I mean yes, there is such a concept in Christianity. It appears quite notably in the letters of Paul, for instance, where it’s a concept he *relentlessly* argues against, and in the Gospel where it’s a concept Jesus very much repeatedly scorns. So it is technically in there!

Just the <checks notes> Chair of the House Appropriations Committee going on the record to say that appropriations statutes “are not a law.” The United States Congress, ladies and gentlemen.

Would love to understand why every Democrat is not out there every second of the day explaining in plain English that Donald Trump has declared war on cancer patients.

I’m supposed to teach the federal budget tomorrow at 10am 🫠🫠🫠

Wow. This is a great way to combat (some of the) bullshit. Keep calling it out!

As this "pause" hits you and your project, institution, workplace, etc: TELL SOMEONE ABOUT IT. Contact your MoC, esp if they're a Dem. Contact a relevant advocacy group. Contact the press, local, regional, movement, trade - and not just for an LtE, for a story. Tell real life stories of harm.

Alcoholic here! Alcoholism is a disease, sure. But hiring someone who is an active, sex pest alcoholic and has been repeatedly drunk on the job at some point slips from supportive to enabling. I would take that into consideration if he were otherwise a perfect nominee.

Quiet Striking. newrepublic.com/post/190555/...

Trump hated TikTok (because China) until it helped him win an election (as even he acknowledges) and now he’s going to save it and take a victory lap. So he’ll have X, TikTok, Insta, and Facebook all working on his behalf. That’s a big difference between now and 2017.
