I would hope that people wouldn't act transphobic certainly. But cis people aren't born pro-trans and may need support to get there. And that's ok. I was referring to what Sarah said... There is a punitive aspect towards folks who aren't 100% there, and that hurts the movement.

She is not capitulating. She is instead rather thoughtfully advocating for a strategy to bring people to our side instead of saying you all are bigots for not being 100% on board with every aspect of the movement.

I disagree.... She is an incredibly thoughtful person who understands how to move hearts and minds as an elected representative. I support her.

Sorry JVL but this is a useless analysis. I'm truly no socialist but I'm for Mamdani. Adams has been a TERRIBLE mayor with no ethical compass. Four more years with him means a worse city. Mamdani at least has energy and good ethics. I'm willing to take a flyer on someone like him than that moron.

Totally fair, I don't know much about what happened post-Oprah etc. so will read up.

I dunno, he really fucked up but it was over 20 years ago. Is he to be banished forever?

Dude c'mon. Out of line. Ridiculing people and calling them stupid isn't going to win back the voters we need to vote these fools out. It will literally do the opposite.

Yes I am aware of the criminal in the office now. So we don't do journalism about past events? Just sweep it under the rug?
comment in response to

We can agree to disagree... I just don't believe it's the job of investigative reporters to focus on one side and not the other. The media isn't perfect but it's not as though there aren't investigative stories on Trump every single day. Biden's team bungled this and I for one want the story.
comment in response to

I think the book is less a constant hammering that Biden was old - we all know that - but what the team around did to pretend he was up for the job when he clearly wasn't. How is that not a story?
comment in response to
post
I don't understand why people won't engage with this argument, instead of denouncing the messenger or ignoring it. There is a 'there' there. And I do believe Trump is a disaster, but it's important to understand what happened and how we got here.
comment in response to
post
I disagree. It's an important story that needs to be reckoned with. There is a 'there' there. I am glad they are reporting it. What I don't understand is... why can't both happen? Reporting the Biden story AND reporting about all the incredible evils of the Trump administration. It's not either/or.
comment in response to
post
How about both - Dems should face accountability (or should at least discuss what happened), and Repubs/media should as well for the issues with Trump. I'm not equating them; just saying that the issues with Biden should be aired out in the open so we can reckon with them and move on.
comment in response to
post
that's not really an argument
comment in response to

I agree with you that the media could mention Trump's issues more. That doesn't mean we shouldn't reckon with what happened with Biden. I truly believe a certain segment of voters still care about it.
comment in response to
post
I think there is a certain percentage of voters who do care, and I don't believe they are all cowards and enablers. I care, and I discuss how evil Trump/Repubs are all the time. It's not the most important issue, but it's a contributing factor to where we find ourselves now so it's worth discussing.
comment in response to
post
I get that, but I mean, you could see he was super old and having difficulties - like every single day. And then the debate confirmed it. It's not just propaganda forced into people's heads.
comment in response to
post
I don't know Jamelle. Sarah Longworth from The Bulwark who does countless focus groups said just yesterday that the issue of Biden being too old, hanging on too long, and being part of a 'cover-up' comes up all the time. You don't have to agree with all of that but I'm not sure you can write it off.
comment in response to
post
Agree that we should say that! But I don't have a problem saying that there were issues with Biden running again. This created a credibility problem for Dems and we should own up to it.

I don't know Ferguson but Noonan I like... I usually don't agree with her but she puts a unique spin on things and is not a fascist defender by any means. Her last column essentially trashed Trump.

Oh c'mon JVL, she also has Ed Luce, David Remnick, Ashley Parker there etc... all terrific and doing probing work. She loves a certain type of provocative writer... nothing wrong with that. And Talk was a thousand years ago in a different era and was quite ballsy. You've got her wrong.

Hey Justin, hard agree. Lutnick already tweeted he is on it. Realistically, do you know what this could mean in practice? A tariff on movie tickets? Production budgets? Or is it just unworkable nonsense?
comment in response to

Is he trolling? And is he trying to distract? I'm not sure. That's the kind of 3D chess we ascribe to him, when in fact I think he believes in what he is doing and is just terribly misguided, uninformed, and just plain stupid. I agree he is deeply unwell.

Chuck, writing posts on Bluesky isn’t cutting it anymore. Sen. Van Hollen took a risk and look what’s happened. Follow his example!

i disagree not only because it's too polarizing, which it clearly is and helps lose elections, but because I believe there are legitimate physical and strength issues which are self-evident. And more than 2/3rds of the country agrees with me. No, not every battle is worth fighting.
comment in response to

Actually, I am. But if you want to be all conspiractorial about it, go ahead. I feel strongly about this issue and that is why I am posting about it.
