It's so frustrating to see how smart, informed and well intentioned governments are in other countries. Meanwhile in capitalist hellscape America, Trump is literally doing all he can to enrich the fossil fuel industry and hasten the worst effects of climate change.

The rational atheist part of me is excited that this dumb shit will only hasten the downfall of organized religion... but the emotional human part of me is like nah, fuck these bigots.

Turns out it was Trump screaming the loudest this whole time and Palpatine was just getting a bad rap.

America has been poisoned by greed. Regardless of whether people want to admit it or not, we are an empire in decline.

Fuck that shit. I block assholes. Life is too short to go through it in a constant state of outrage. I don't want to argue with idiots that don't believe in vaccines and think Biden was a robot.

I'd say the same thing about ICE agents wearing masks.

Even if he did, how would anything be authenticated given that Trump has sycophants in charge of the DOJ and FBI? They'd just say it is fake.

I wish I could believe this, but in the 1930s there were massive Nazi rallies in Madison Square Garden and the Americans that attended these rallies did not have a change of heart following WWII - instead they apparently handed their beliefs down to their children.

I am a skeptic by nature so this just looks like a conspiracy theory to me. I don't see any evidence. Simpler reasons for the outcome exist: America is deeply misogynistic/racist and Dems were caught in a no win scenario with the Hamas terrorist attack and subsequent Gaza genocide.

Unless you have evidence you can present to back up your "theory" - you are essentially doing the same thing we were all bitching about them doing - creating a sense of distrust about our election system. Voting machines should be physically secured - they aren't just plugged into the internet.

This is likely performative and they are doing it to distract people from things that they are doing that are deeply unpopular like cutting medicaid and raising the national debt by giving tax breaks to billionaires. This is probably being cooked up by a PR firm working on rehabbing Elon's image.
comment in response to

This is essentially chaff. They do these pointless dumb things to distract us. We need to pick a limited subset of the unpopular horrible things they are doing and stay focused on those instead of chasing after the new outrage of the day.

Agree - and he is making China look like the stable/adult choice for countries to deal with. China already has a massive advantage over us due to their decades of focus on solar and BEV technologies... instead of trying to catch up we're putting money into crypto and Mars (the ultimate boondoggle).

This is essentially Marge extending her open hand for tech billionaires and crypto bros to insert a large "donation" in return for her reconsideration of her support for this provision.

Which makes it all the more frustrating that the majority of people that voted, voted for this. I will never understand how avoiding this inevitability wasn't enough motivation for people to vote against it.

That's fundamentally what makes them who they are - they can never have enough. Normal people can't even begin to conceive of how their minds work - if I had enough money to live on for the rest of my life, I'd quit working - but these greedy fucks can have a billion dollars and still want more.

Ugh. When someone that isn't a scientist tells me that something is "good science" without providing any of the actual science that demonstrates what they are claiming is true, it reeks of bullshit.

If I was a conspiracy theorist, I'd say that Trump is actively inviting something to happen by putting all these incompetent people in charge and actively trying to piss everyone off -- just so he has an excuse to declare martial law and cancel elections... maybe I've been watching too much Andor 😂

The ironic part about this for me is that NPR can sometimes be a little too conservative for my tastes -- or at least a little too capitalist... and I used to be a registered Republican. If Trump accomplished anything with this attack, he finally got me to become a sustaining member.

I honestly think they know we're already screwed and they're just trying to enrich themselves as much as possible before sh*t really hits the fan -- while claiming climate change isn't real. The things we're currently not doing to address climate change needed to be started 20 years ago.

It actually is great because raising cows to eat is resource intensive which contributes to climate change and raising the price is a way to get people to eat less of it. I also think gas prices should be double what they currently are...

Who are we kidding, the categories where America is currently first among nations are things no country should ever aspire to: people incarcerated, military spending, homeless, healthcare costs, wealth gap, etc.

I feel like people have a complete misunderstanding of how this works - the amount of excess greenhouse gasses determines the RATE of warming. It takes 100s of years for natural process to remove excess greenhouse gasses. We will continue warming for 100s of years after we stop emitting.

I was 8 in 1977 and Andor is quite possibly my favorite thing in the Star Wars universe. Cassian is my favorite hero for sure... no one ever has to ask if Cassian shot first, because yeah, of course he did.
If I am being honest though... Lonni 🙏 (RIP) is the true hero of the rebellion.

That is hilarious. I'm assuming 99.9% of liberals would just answer yes - because it applies to anyone within the territory of the United States. Republicans should try just reading the Constitution -- or is that now considered "woke" too?
