I remember youth group guest speakers talking about "radical Islam" trains and indoctrinates children into their mission via child soldier camps, and the unspoken implication not being that "this is a bad thing to do" but that "Christians are way behind on our child soldier quota so let's go to it"

HP Lovecraft: So racist that other people in the 20's, including HP Lovecraft, were like "Damn this guy is really racist"

I read all of Lovecraft's work over a summer trip once and it was an amazing constant whiplash between "this is good" and "wow this is incredibly racist"

Dumbasses who don't pay attention aren't monsters, but it's a genuine moral failing of the same variety as not picking up your own trash. It's a duty to a shared society.

We have an intellectual, spiritual, and moral duty to divorce the word "Christian" from "good person doing it right." It was a nickname given to us by observers - it was a social category of "people that outside observers associate with Jesus". That is the most useful definition.

And we cannot properly deal with the reality that "Christianity as your primary cultural force brings a lot of moral baggage we need to diligently watch for and correct" if we say "all the versions of Christianity that do bad things were just not Christianity" - it makes it difficult to self-assess.

"A Christlike genocide" is an oxymoron by any read of Jesus I would take seriously (and even that requires some squinting at Revelation). "A Christian genocide" is something that those of us who claim the cross have done several times.

To make "Person I think is doing it right" the same word as "person who is a member of the social, religious, and cultural group historically associated with this movement" builds blind spots in us for all the reasons cited above.

My point is that "Person who I believe accurately and sufficiently follows the teachings of Jesus" or "Person who has an effective salvific relationship with Christ and will be counted among the sheep instead of the goats" is a bad definition of Christian and not one presented in Scripture.

if they could pull off a mechanic that makes summons equipable and the optimal play is to equip them on a legendary creature to power it up for a while before moving it over to your commander i would lose my mind
