Grateful to have this wonderful community of folks to commiserate and strategize with, especially given how each of us is in a resource scarce environment #DayofDH2024

My #DayOfDH2024 is mostly devoted to dealing with teaching and advising tasks put on hold for the Thanksgiving holiday. But I'm going to try to squeeze in some work on Lexos, including tasks suggested by my code reviewers at DHTech (dh-tech.github.io).

Planning a #DigitalHumanities research software project and need help with technical planning? Submit your project to DHReSCU (DH Research Software Consulting Unit) to be matched with a Humanities RSE consultant. forms.gle/hgMGR7YmHc4N... Selected project teams will be paid $1500 for their time.

Fabulous news for #MedievalSky today: the British Library has brought 1000 digitized manuscripts (MSS) back online: blogs.bl.uk/digitisedman.... Congrats to all the BL staff who have made this recovery possible.

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #559,044!

With bonus images, posted my #dh2024 talk about Building the DH@CSU Consortium #DH triproftri.wordpress.com/2024/08/11/b... Shout outs @briancroxall.bsky.social @lmrhody.bsky.social @humetricshss.bsky.social @dhatcsu.bsky.social @plach.bsky.social @skleinman.bsky.social @roopikarisam.bsky.social

For slides from today's talk about the massive Cal State DH Consortium @dhatcsu.bsky.social that we're working on, check the slides and final page for links to the website & last year's final report tinyurl.com/DHATCSU #dh2024 We welcome suggestions for how to create a consortium for 30k ppl!

A ton of folks at the CDH & incredible graduate students in Princeton English have worked for SO LONG on this project -- please read & share! modernismmodernity.org/forums/world... Especially excited about @zoeleblanc.bsky.social and @suttonkoeser.bsky.social's article.

Check your emails! Acceptance notifications for #DH2024 were just sent out! We are looking forward to welcoming you to D.C. this August. 🎉

Please spread the word! Terrific article about the NEH-funded Herculaneum Scrolls Project at UKentucky that is getting massive media coverage (though they rarely mention NEH). We're trying to emphasize the role and importance of humanities research funding!

Thanks for the shout out, @kmcdono.bsky.social . DHTech is hoping to fill a gap with DH community code review. We’ve posted an updated process and quarterly deadlines to submit code for review. dhcodereview.github.io Consider signing up to be a reviewer or submitting code for review.

Good morning from CSU Northridge and the California Faculty Association

There's plenty of💰for things mgmt wants for themselves, like raises & shiny projects to advance their careers. But when it comes to paying a living wage, creating safe learning/research spaces & supporting our most vulnerable, they plead poverty. Budgets 👏 are 👏 moral 👏 docs. Support our strike!

Want to support the Cal State strike? You can with some ~form-filling shenanigans~ There are 23 campuses and 23 forms that it would be bad to fill out with false info! Here are ALL 23 LINKS. Pls share! Bakersfield: app.smartsheet.com/b/form/496e7... Chico State: app.smartsheet.com/b/form/5ee49...

The Cal State system is set to go on strike. As far as I can tell, system admins have made no effort to lobby the State for more funding. I've already assumed that the first week of classes will be cancelled. Now I have to guess how many more weeks to remove from my syllabus.

The California Faculty Association is calling for a strike Jan 22-26 across the California State University, the largest public university system in the US. It is sad, but salaries have now fallen so far below inflation that faculty cannot carry on as usual.

4Humanities.org’s “The Humanities Matter!” infographic has been updated! 4humanities.org/2023/08/upda... When the original appeared in 2014, people hung copies outside offices & at events. Humanists need a flag! (Thanks to Madeleine Sorapure for making the v. 2 update with new stats & sources.)
