I remember being in school in the wake of the GFC in 2008 and learning about the Great Depression and how an American stock crash caused economic effects across the world.
"When America sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold." This, I believe, is true to politics and culture.

That does not even take into account the inter/national viewpoint one could take. This signals, to me, that no person of foreign birth - regardless of position of privilege or class - is safe in America.
