@corybooker.com now has the 5th longest single-speaker filibuster in US history. The longest was over 24 hours to fight *against* the Civil Rights Bill.

Nowhere close to a record yet. It seems the longest single speaker filibuster was over 24 hours and the longest multiday one was 60 days. Both of which were to fight Civil Rights bills.

Did the West Wing lie or can another Democrat help Booker out by asking a long question?

Why does it seem like every other country can hold law-breaking politicians accountable while the US just re-elects them?

Virginia service worker Jennifer Piggott voted for Trump knowing others would suffer she just never thought… 🐆💀

Those trucks are carrying around 800 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents

Two tractor-trailers picked up some 80,000 pounds of beef from a slaughterhouse in northeastern Tennessee, and then vanished, the authorities said this week.

In April, Project Drawdown is headed to SF Climate Week, a series of events across the San Francisco Bay Area gathering diverse climate organizations, leaders, and the broader community working at the intersection of climate action and innovation. drawdown.org/news/project... #SFClimateWeek

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.

Whenever I see a multi bird post and feel guilty about liking one species more

The IEA has released a new analysis on energy use in 2024, and it's full of interesting data and insights. I urge people to check it out. Here are my top-line reactions to it, below. A thread.... www.iea.org/news/growth-...

I've never noticed this indicator at the top of CNN, and it feels like a scathing indictment of our societal values

Well, we found one of the 12% of Americans who eat half of all the beef consumed in the country

With everything going on, it was nice to slip into the wondrous world of these humble, exceedingly clingy millipedes for a moment while writing this story for @biographic.bsky.social

Free/low-cost childcare is one of those issues that makes me realize the depth of US political incompetence. It more or less pays for itself in economic gains, is widely popular, and builds a foundation of prosperity for everyone. Excited for this series from @rbuller.bsky.social

Just before a tax on methane, enacted as part of the Biden-era Inflation Reduction Act, was set to go into effect, President Donald Trump repealed it. The tax would have been the US’s first measure penalizing greenhouse gas pollution. By @zteirstein.bsky.social for @gristnews.bsky.social…

The Texas Senate recently passed SB 388, which effectively would penalize renewables and reward dispatchable generators that politicians in Austin favor:

In a free market, renewables win. So Texas is tipping the scales in favor of polluting methane gas. Important reporting from @canarymedia.com

The Beef Industry Knew Its Climate Impact as Early as 1989 — and Worked to Obfuscate the Science Keep in mind that 74 percent of respondents to a WaPo poll believe — contrary to the evidence — that eating less meat has little or no effect on climate change. sentientmedia.org/beef-industr...

This article misses a lot of chances to state the facts about just how bad red meat consumption is for the planet and our health. And takes way too long to point out that most beef is eaten by 12% of the population and increased meat consumption is being driven largely by poultry, not beef.

If direct air capture (DAC), a CO₂ removal (CDR) technique, costs $500 per tonne, removing just US emissions would cost ~$3 trillion annually (that's ~4x US military spending). It would also require twice the total power generation capacity of the US today (and it has to be 100% carbon-free).

Tucson, Arizona today. Original projected attendance was 3,000 people. 23,000 showed up.

Tonight an unbelievable **34,000 people** gathered for our Denver rally to take on billionaires and win our country back. This was the largest political gathering in Denver since Obama in 2008. Also bigger than the 2024 DNC. And the largest ever rally in Bernie’s career (and obviously, mine too).

The gall to put out a press release for a project that removes 0.000015% of your annual carbon dioxide emissions

Wow, even SpaceX capsules are being vandalized because of Elon

Want to hear from the experts about how visual storytelling can spur action, hope, and climate solutions? There's still time to register for today's webinar ft. @justincookphoto.bsky.social @damaso.bsky.social and @soljourno.bsky.social! us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...

This tax was a carrot disguised as a stick. It gave fossil fuel companies subsidies to stop gas leaks, which ultimately saves them money. Several O&Gs even supported it until Trump got into office and they realized they could push to dismantle it. Another common sense policy gone.

Don’t miss out on this webinar! Join the nearly 400 climate communicators, activists, researchers, and journalists already registered.

They didn’t shift its mission. They abandoned it altogether. Come on @nytimes.com

"[Climate change is] a side effect of building the modern world." Well, ending fossil fuels is a side effect of building a better world. And it can't come soon enough.

We’ve all seen photos capturing climate impacts. But how can visual storytelling highlight climate solutions, too? Register for this webinar from @projectdrawdown.bsky.social and @soljourno.bsky.social! tinyurl.com/28f7xsxc

Just stop. If we’re going outside the establishment, let’s get a scientist in office, not a sports pundit.

This International Women's Day, we recognize climate action and gender equality go hand in hand. Women worldwide are at the forefront of solutions, from regenerating land and advancing clean energy to securing food and water systems for their communities. drawdown.org/programs/dra... #IWD2025

We need to break down the silos between addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, and human suffering. Fortunately, the solutions are often complementary -- and we can sometimes find "win-win-win" opportunities to address all three. More from Project Drawdown: drawdown.org/insights/we-...

I feel like nutria and beavers look way too similar to most folks for this to not lead to some errant beaver killings… Thoughts @bengoldfarb.bsky.social?

NEWS: The USAID official put on leave for disseminating two memos about Rubio's failure to push through life-saving foreign aid was in the process of writing a THIRD memo when fired. We obtained it. It's far more alarming than the first two. www.thebulwark.com/p/what-a-wee...

"Zelenskyy is the real thing. He stayed in Kyiv, when Russian forces were closing in and the city was under bombardment. Vance, by contrast, chose to move to a secure location when confronted with a few hecklers on a skiing trip this weekend.”
