to all of the Democratic senators who voted yes, on Bondi, how are you sleeping at night knowing that our government is kidnapping, torturing, and imprisoning innocent people?

I don't think liberals/leftists should flee the country, because the US is still the world hegemon. There's no running away from a power like this, it has to be stopped from the inside.

If you're a politician and legitimately afraid of death threats or retaliation for standing up against the current administration, you are not qualified for your position, and quitting to make way for someone who isn't a coward is the only net positive you will ever contribute to this country.

Imagine calling yourself a "political scientist" and saying this unironically. Genuinely you wasted your time dude 😭

the stock market is cratering into hell & elected reps are all "the most important thing is we officially rename the gulf of mexico." i used to think these doofuses were all bought & paid for by rich wall street assholes, but now i think they might all just be genuinely too stupid to work for anyone

They won't be. Left untouched, the Dems will just do the same thing they've done for the past several elections. This is something we have to demand collectively.

The Supreme Court has ruled, temporarily at least, and perhaps permanently, that the United States government can deport anyone, including a US citizen, to a foreign country and then maroon them there on the grounds that they no longer have control of them. Fascism is here.

Can we stop calling these atrocities "deportations." These people sold to El Salvadorian prisons were not deported. Deportation is a process that did not take place. They were rounded up and removed with no process. They were kidnapped, not deported.

Most people in the United States who have never faced housing insecurity have no idea how easy it is to evict someone in this country. Before the pandemic, every US state evicted more people annually than all of mainland Europe COMBINED. Many states don't even allow counterclaims in evictions.

In most societies, the rich and powerful acceded to the rule of law solely because they realized that, as soon as ordinary people feel they’re getting screwed without any chance of peaceful redress, that’s when you get the pitchfork-wielding mobs.

A lot of people seem to be under the belief that the post-war factory jobs their parents and grandparents had were good jobs because they were masculine and tough instead of, say, protected by a union under a progressive tax rate and a massive surplus

I think people reeeeealllly overestimate the role of trade and industrial policy in US dominance of heavy industry in the 1950s and really underestimate the importance of having dropped high explosives on every facility in Japan or Germany capable of manufacturing a ball bearing

Liberals' idea of social justice is voting in a marginalized person to do war crimes against people of color, while leftists' idea of social justice is voting in a person of *any* identity who is committed to the liberation of marginalized people

Reminder that (a) the current share of U.S. workers in the public sector (working for government agencies) is at historic lows (b) It was not until the 'post'-Civil Rights era, when Black workers gained footing in public sector jobs, policymakers began to frame public sector workers as "waste"

liberalism is the idea that reality happens in 4 year increments and the only thing that can exist before or after the current cycle is leftists being naughty

god i hate facebook boomer ass comments you get on here

yeah man it's over

I am laughing at the idea of institutional trust right now. Like the idea that any American should trust authority. Completely out of the window. Every single bastion of public trust has failed. The future is in the hands of the first person who can meaningfully eject this guy at nearly any cost.

Oh cool, they're going to cut down the California national forests. Is Newsom too busy flirting with Nazis on his podcast to do something about this? #HandsOff www.reddit.com/r/collapse/s...

This has always been the GOP's strategy: 1) Cut taxes for the wealthy & corporations by claiming they'll pay for themselves. 2) Explode the deficit. 3) Demand cuts to vital programs that help millions. 4) Repeat. They're trying to get away with it again.

I used to think saying people were voting against their own interests was condescending but now I have to take that back after seeing people argue the stock market crashing and paying higher prices due to tariffs is good actually. Might as well celebrate putting your foot in a bear trap.

Ah, the cries of landlords every time the Scottish government is announcing plans to cap rent increases…

“The left” meanwhile it’s just people asking you to not be an asshole.

People conveniently forgetting the cost of living crisis, housing crisis, debt crisis, and every other ongoing crisis happening for working class people under Obama and Biden just because line went up during those eras: 😀

yeah i think this is right

To a meaningful segment of the American voter population (and likely Canadian voter population, too) "owning the libs" is more important than creating a safe and prosperous society. The stock market crash will not matter to them, no matter how impoverished it males us all.

And this is a compounding calamity as they are cutting subsidized childcare, planning to cut Medicaid, and already cutting food to food banks. It's a decimation of the poor and working people.

Your regular reminder that the far right thrives on victimhood. They deliberately create chaos and misery then they exploit people's frustration and discontent, blaming this on 'woke' and immigrants, when it is they who are the cause.

"I didn't vote for" you did. Sorry. You did. Should have listened to the woke libtards instead of your roided out imaginary friends who told you kids were pooping in kitty litter at school

When the market skyrockets, they privatize the profits, when it tanks, they socialize the losses. A bull market is amazing for the wealthy, a bear market is horrible for everyone. 401ks wiped out, mass layoffs, prices skyrocket. Buckle up.

What makes this visual even more stunning is that it was made possible by people who said their #1 concern when voting was the economy. What idiots.

I have a theory that people who complain about the “online left”… might not be on the left. I might suggest they’re… you know… leaning in the direction that it opposite to left. Whatever that might, couldn’t possibly say.

"Kamala told you this was going to happen!"

Am I depressed because of what's happening or am I depressed because of the people who somehow didn't see it coming? Both. It's both.

saw somebody on the wallstreetbets reddit trying to explain to them that the crashes are in fact bad bc normal people don't have thousands of dollars laying around to "buy the dip" or whatever and they were all like "i don't understand"

I can only imagine the bailout package they are drawing up for themselves. As the saying goes, privatize the profits, and socialize the losses.

It’s a recalibration of economic control. Oligarchs don’t live paycheck to paycheck. They have the capital to buy market dips and recoup faster, acquiring more assets at fire sale prices along the way. When the dust finally settles, they will own more. The rest of us will own less. A lot less.

why yes my political party of common sense, fiscal responsibility, and serious thought is composed mainly of frothing bigots, hapless aristocrats, and petulant contrarians. i don't see how that's a problem?

*fascinating* seeing centrists blame apathy towards politics and activism on left wing niche podcasts and stuff instead of a) multiple examples of those in charge (including centrist governments) refusing to listen to activists b) bullshit with a massive cultural reach like South Park
