No way, have you seen those little flipping dog toys?? It's coming when they realize the market is ripe

Nursing school just has you pathologizing all your symptoms and doing nothing to make them better (I have fine tremors due to excess CNS stimulation because I am blasting energy drinks on an empty tummy)

There is so much about that class that even six years later is seared into my memory. The emotions are just as real now as they were in 2019. I don't know why I felt the need to memorialize some of them here. Just idle musings I suppose

your assignment is an unwelcome feeling I don't wish to ever experience again.

I hated dissecting the hands and feet. The tendons, the thin skin, the fact that it all anchors at your nails and as such is fixed to the bone in a way that meatier parts of the body are not... All of it combined makes for an unsettling experience. Holding a cold, pale hand so you can deglove it for

my thin walls shattered once it came to dissecting the hands. Maybe it's because hands are uniquely human. Maybe it's because they're so delicate and sensitive as compared to vast planes like the back and legs. The hesitation returned with a vengeance. My scalpel trembled again.

And yet, after months of this gruesome work, after filleting someone's someone, who so graciously gave their soul's well-loved home, after getting used to compartmentalizing and seeing meat and viscera where once there was a skipping heart and vital organsβ€”

Once you get over the mental mountain and can focus on your daily objectives, your curiosity takes over and there's a certain zeal to be found in the discovery. We have as much difference above as below the surface. Countless stories within ourselves that we may never know.

Human fat is very greasy, by the way. Slick and queasy yellow, like a chunkier version of chicken fat. It comes apart like thick grains of couscous as you shove it aside.

I have a similar moment from my functional anatomy course. We started on the back. Cutting into a cadaver was intimidating, to say the least. Less because this was a previously live human, and more because I mirrored every cut into my own skin. Skinning a person, flaying the fat, fascia, and fleshβ€”

When I was in 7th grade, we dissected a squid. I can still hear the shearing sound, reminiscent of splitting gift wrap paper, as we cut it open with scissors. Despite the wet cartilaginous texture, it still sounded like paper. That's so strange.

Whenever I start a dissection, the first cut is the hardest. The squickiest. Turning a previously whole, unblemished organism into a pull-apart puzzle takes a toll on the brain. I know it's dead, but I hesitate. My hands shake, my palms sweat. Every time, I clench my jaw as I get over my disgust.

quite frankly, you can't convince me that these people haven't been living in a reality TV show since like 2013 or whenever they cursed all our timelines

I used to have a (cheap) rock tumbler as a small child and I'm so sad that we threw it out! I've been thinking about it for years at this point and when I have the money I will definitely get another (cheap) one
