Epilogue of War and Peace Tolstoy goes full reactionary. The happy ending is Nicholas and Pierre becoming “good masters” to their serfs and Mary and Natasha become obedient wives and mothers. Natasha losses all of her beauty to boot so she is only attractive to her husband.

Reading War and Peace for the first time and it's much more of a historical narrative than I expected. Written roughly 60 years after Napoleon's doomed Russia campaign, it would be like a modern American writer covering the Vietnam War. Allows you to see Napoleon as a man vs. historical figure.
