The slope isn't slippery; the frog isn't gradually getting boiled. Within its first hundred days the Trump administration has openly asserted the right/ power to seize and imprison anyone— including political dissidents, including citizens— and deprive them of any legal recourse at all. 5/

It's time to wake up. The generative AI bubble is unsustainable, hysterical and delusional. OpenAI's finances have never made sense. Nobody is making money in AI other than founders cashing out and NVIDIA - and I believe this will lead this industry to ruin. www.wheresyoured.at/openai-is-a-...

Yup. Hard agree. Anyone who is considering sacrificing the safety of trans people to get some votes right now or anyone who is trying to reach across the island shake hands with people who are setting up internment camps can fuck right off.

Have y'all seen Happy Accidents? He leads a romcom with Marisa Tomei and I love it.

What our leather goods need are stricter standards on clear labeling. I know how to buy quality leather, but shit like "genuine leather" catches people buying crap made out of pulp. Look for top grain and full grain when buying leather goods for durability.

AI cannot conceptualize anything that it has not pulled from reference. The more niche and specific the prompt the more likely it will be a recognizable copy of a work that is in its data set. There are plenty of examples of this floating around the internet already.

No. This isn't human learning and adaptation. This is pixel smashing. This is filing the serial numbers off of someone else's work in many cases.

I got it on Libro to support my local indie bookstore and it's very good.

"Only human contributor" ignores that the image is heavily derivative of the human work it trained on.

Cool. I'll just hop on my time machine. I'm sure there's nothing else I could do with it other than not change my name fifteen years ago.

I absolutely agree with the idea that artists create because they need to and want to. I think human beings in general want to do things and be productive, and that the Republican party's idea that we would all be on the sofa if we got UBI is pessimistic and denies the reality of human nature.

Perhaps so, but the answer is not to remove IP before we have the other problem solved. The people who in this original post are suggesting removing IP aren't ever planning to solve the actual problem.

I kind of wonder how many of gen Z asked chat GPT who they should vote for.

I write because I have ideas in me and I want to put them out into the world. But I would definitely have more time to write if I didn't also have to work a full-time job.

And maybe in a world where we had universal basic income you might be fine just writing books and letting other people put them out into the world but as it stands someone can't spend their life writing books unless they can get money for food and rent from it.

This is the thing a lot of anti IP crusaders Don't really understand. Write a book? It's going to be the company that can print it and put it on shelves at Walmart that gets to sell your book not you. Invented device? Doesn't matter without a factory.

If you're missing work or school because of it or deciding to skip social engagements because you're cramping too badly, that's not normal.

1. OMG use space after a period 2. NC like the other southern states has rampant voter suppression and a higher than the national average Black population. 3. He won by 3.21% which means millions of people there didn't vote for him.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the message was lost. For want of a message the battle was lost. For want of a battle the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.
