From the No Kings protest in my hometown:

This is heartbreaking. (via someone at the St. Paul rally)

The rule of law lives or dies on our willingness to act—occasionally with grim resolve. It’s time for people who value justice to screw their courage to the sticking place. https://trib.al/DiKqsBS

Madness. This is MADNESS.

We have been working on a story about the run of ICE impersonators robbing and terrorizing mostly Latino businesses. Now this has jumped to impersonating cops for politically motivated assassinations.

The federal government is telling you they cannot afford to house you, feed you, educate you or heal you — but that they do have enough resources and scale to criminalize, assault, deport and incarcerate your neighbors simply going to work or taking their kids to graduation.

1) I was momentarily distracted walking through midtown and ran directly into a barrel-chested Busta Rhymes who kept me from falling backwards, then said, “My bad, sweetheart.” 2) My husband being concerned that the bar we were in was serving children alcohol because he didn’t recognize Elijah Wood.

I just keep looking at my phone and saying “oh my God” like Bob from Bob’s Burgers.

To me, arguing online lacks benefit, so I don’t. And if I’m honest, I’ve been so sickened for so long at the rampant cowardice I have to constantly see displayed, that the version of me that WOULD argue with strangers online is kinda toxic. At least more toxic than I am comfortable being in public.

I’d been having a tough time, so the kid I used to nanny is coming to town so we can go to the movies. He starts college in August, and I just can’t believe that sweet boy grew into such a kind and thoughtful young man. Let me stop before I cry again.

Shit ain’t been right since Desus & Mero went to Showtime.

State troops sent to Los Angeles by the Trump administration, without the approval of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, were expected to sleep on floors or outdoors, a source told the Chronicle.

“Trump is using military forces to stop a protest — I want y'all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us.” Doechii at the #BETAwards

UPDATE: David Huerta was just released from custody!

NEW: Over a thousand people are rallied in Downtown LA in support of SEIU, after SEIU President Pres. David Huerte was arrested days ago after an ICE raid (ABC7) Won't be able to be as active with the updates today, but I'll do my best to provide some

Masha Gessen worries that Americans are entering a phase of the "shock exhaustion" witnessed in Putin's Russia: A coping response to awful things happening in rapid succession is to normalize extremism. Establishment media (incl. the Times) too often enable this by both-sidesing authoritarianism.

Today, the 2+ million people incarcerated across the U.S. learn about life “outside” through PBS, one of the only available media channels, writes Daniel K. Forkkio. In prisons, where books are banned & visits are restricted, PBS is a crucial lifeline. prismreports.org/2025/06/03/p...

The weird, often whitewashed way the civil rights movement is taught (or not taught) seemed to convince a lot of people that nonviolence was met with nonviolence, instead of you know, dogs, hoses, beatings, death, etc

"The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear."

Depression is a monster for what it does to your relationships alone.

I know that many don't want to hear this but we've been moving towards this current state of affairs over the past 65 years. And it's really been a bipartisan project. The expansion of the carceral state is the fuel for fascism. Folks have been trying to make this case for a long time.

Although the Houston ICE arrestee is described in the story as part of the Afghan army, his attorney identifies him as a veteran of the Kandahar Strike Force—aka the QSF or NDS-03, the CIA’s Afghan surrogate force in Kandahar. Here’s a 2021 story of mine about NDS-03’s very difficult escape:

Protecting our neighbors is how we build community TRUST. Nobody trusts the state, and with good reason. All we have is one another.

That's a lot of people protesting 🤔

not sure there's a more embarrassing profession than ICE agent. Oh, you dress like a soldier to abduct sous chefs and throw flashbangs at protesters? Get a real job you loser

live from the huge spontaneous anti-ICE protest after the agency used military-style tactics during a series of raids in Los Angeles today.
