Nominations are now open for the 2025 Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction—and anyone can nominate work for this $25,000 prize! We hope you'll nominate books you love that meet this year's criteria:

So glad @wcwilliams.bsky.social and I walked (in this unseasonably warm and sunny weather) to catch the last day of Storm Tharp’s show at PDX Contemporary Art. This is now my favorite self-portrait

I testified at the Arts and Economy city committee meeting today, the first with the new Portland administration! We are fighting for equity in arts funding and it’s worth sharing. Portlandartsandculture.org for more info. 2/4

I under-bit this plate (exhausted mordant, damn it) but was so pleased with the liveliness of the drawing that I dread having to trace it. To hopefully avoid that, I rolled the plate with BIG ground rather than traditional asphaltum—and I think it did what I hoped.

This flu is very deadly for cats. These are just reported cases, so there are more out there—and it’s only getting worse from here. 😢 Plus, there’s that briefly-there-and-gone CDC report about human-cat transmission. This is pretty serious.

My partner (and frequent studio assistant) has work in Animal Parade, a group show at Sonny's House (2504 NE Sandy Blvd, PDX). Opens tomorrow, on view through March 30th

Happy Valentines Day 🍫

6 x 9 inches is about the maximum plate size I can print on my little home etching press (while maintaining a decent paper border). Turns out, though, that the container I use for my mordant bath is JUST SLIGHTLY smaller than that. A plate ready to be etched with no safe way to submerge it 😭

Building on this observation by @harikunzru.bsky.social, a few years ago I wrote for Artforum about the connections between the Nazi rhetoric of "degenerate art" and Confederate monuments in the US, which seems pretty relevant right about now. Past is prologue www.artforum.com/columns/mich...

Help me raise 10k for LGBTQ kids in nyc. This is urgent. fundraise.newalternativesnyc.org/fundraiser/6...

The Russo Lee Gallery re-opening was great (got to see and say hi to a bunch of people I haven’t seen in a while), and I am completely talked out. I don’t usually gravitate to red but couldn’t take my eyes off Fay Jones’ Diminished: Head in a Fog. The insects (upper left) are shimmery gold

After being closed for 6 months due to smoke damage from a fire at an adjacent business (which occurred when my work was hanging in their office, haha), Russo Lee Gallery is reopening this evening! It’s been sad to walk by their papered-over windows. russoleegallery.com

I’ve had this gif saved as a favorite in my phone’s picture album since 2016. I’ve been using it a lot the last few weeks; it helps the crushing anxiety and waves of overwhelm a bit. Sharing in case anyone else needs a reminder to breathe too

MAC (my former professional home 💖) is seeking work by LGBTQIA2S+ artists who live in or whose tribal lands are in Oregon or SW Washington. More info about the call: www.multnomahartscenter.org/draftspace_g... #queerart #art #callforart
