Well that was an absolute corker! “Small Wonder” is a rip-roaring race against the odd to save a kingdom. Tick is true hero and Pebble is possibly the finest of horses. Part adventure, part fairy-tale it’s the purest form of storytelling, like an arrow to a target. Fab! @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social

Attendance is the worst it’s been in schools yet rather than looking at support and understanding to solve the problem many seem to double down on an approach which demands attendance. We’ve had real impact on our attendance by working with families and supporting the children.

“Together We Remember” by #JackieMorera and #VioletaEncarnación is a wonderful, gentle book about dealing with loss and the redemptive power of play, the relationship between father and daughter and that healing is through remembering more not less. Truly poignant and beautiful. #PicturebookPage

Transition days, set the expectations, talk to the pupils and just teach how you teach. Don’t be showy and “look how exciting it’s gonna be” or do loads of “fun” stuff that ultimately will just lead to disappointment. Just be bothered about them.

“In-between Places” by #AlexKillian and #GradyMcFerrin is a wonderful book about transitions. It’s about those moments between. The simple text moves from statement to metaphor and is accompanied by rich illustrations. It’s a perfect book to explore those moments of uncertainty. #PicturebookPage

“MECH BRIGADE” by @jamierussell.bsky.social is a true heart-pounder full of breathless action and moral quandary. What starts a bit like “Starship Troopers” becomes a a nuanced Sci-Fi tale where lines are blurred and the truth is not always what we believe. Fab for UKS2. @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social
