THIS ‼️

Another win for (checks notes) rich foreign nationals!

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at USAID. This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC. What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

Secretary of Defense Hegseth says he doesn’t know if Russia invaded Ukraine. This you?

This is insane. If you wonder why some of us think the rule of law is about to fall, it's this. The U.S. Attorney for DC is not "President Trump's lawyer" and its job is not to "protect his leadership" nor prosecute people who "refuse to put America first".

Last night's Pentagon massacre is much more than realized. Not just firing the black CJCS and first woman CNO but all the senior JAG officers and hiring a man who just joined 3 different crypto firms tied to Kushner and Thiel as Chairman. I did a deep dive into it open.substack.com/pub/fpwellma...

Continuing to think that Elon Musk doesn't understand SQL and nobody else wants to correct him (haven't checked this on my own yet, but seems legit www.linkedin.com/posts/shanet...)

One of the greatest tricks that Donald Trump and Elon Musk ever pulled is to convince millions of people that DOGE is about government efficiency. It's about narcissistic, resentful destruction: The Death of Government Expertise. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

It's 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. I only know because this is being shared a lot across all platforms.

This is what should be on every front page right now. What's happening in the US right now is an illegal power grab by a private citizen. IT'S A COUP. It's a digital coup. It's Musk who's leading it. The consequences are terrifying. And it's coming for us next. 1/ open.substack.com/pub/broligar...

Listen, Broligarchy is not some cute synonym for oligarchy. It's genuinely different & WAY more dangerous. I'm a sociologist who's been studying the ultra-rich globally for 17 yrs, entering their world as an offshore wealth mgr. Published 2 books abt them. 🧵Broligarchs are distinct in 3 ways:

I love that a white guy was flying the plane, a white guy was flying the helicopter, and a white guy gutted the FAA last week but somehow the blame is too much diversity.

If this doesn't scare the crap outta you, I don't know what will. They better be looking into this.

This is probably only the start... only 10 days in.

NEW: My staff just got ahold of this memo from House Budget Committee Republicans. It's lengthy and hard to digest but it tells us exactly how Republicans plan to sell out the American people for another round of tax cuts to the rich. We're breaking down the highlights as we go:

Sergeant Gonell @sergeantaqgo.bsky.social sent me this picture. This is his call log. Each call is an automated Dept of "Justice" notification saying "The defendant you testified against is being released from the dept of corrections." Each defendant assaulted him.

Seriously NYT ... GFY

. @carolecadwalla.bsky.social gets more into the meat of what I allude to in my own substack this week: the info space is incredibly skewed and will only get worse. Read her piece. It's important. And here's my Rant! on the subject: alexzfinley.substack.com/p/happy-new-...

Did your child lose their book collection in the Los Angeles fires? Are you a teacher at a school that lost its library or your classroom library? Whether you need one book or a whole library, we can replace your books. 📚 Everyone else, please boost this post so we can connect with those in need. 🙏

Going from Lloyd Austin (4-star general, Army Dep. Chief of Staff, top commander in Iraq, head of CENTCOM) to Pete Hegseth (was in National Guard years ago, pushed out of veterans group for misconduct, championed convicted war criminals on TV) really highlights what the right means by "DEI hire."

Clear demonstration that our Constitution doesn't matter, only loyalty to Trump who would neeeevvvvvvver do anything wrong ... though all points to the contrary. End of democracy vibes. It's depressing as hell.

The Hegseth hearing is doing one thing incredibly well: it’s establishing that when his leadership at DoD fails, it’ll be clear that GOP Senators knew, excused it, and they own it. Serious concerns about experience & judgment are literally being laughed off.

This thread very eloquently said what I couldn't get myself to express because the social media responses have only left me with "GFYourselves". Well stated, Tom.

Thanks @hcrichardson.bsky.social for informing re the Andy Bigs’ H.Res.7 and its “needs of men.” “…Whereas health care for women should also address the needs of men, families, and communities as they relate to women’s health care;” Calling my Rep!!! www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...

Stay safe everyone! Picking up from a fellow Harris/Walz organizer and SoCal resident: As fires continue to burn in Los Angeles and 10,000s are displaced, here are places you can find information, resources, and ways to help. I've verified each link. Please share and give what you can.

"...but still, this anniversary marks a dark day in US history. Unlike the forces that attacked America at Fort Sumter, Pearl Harbor, or the Twin Towers, the Jan. 6 attackers won." GRRRRR www.arcdigital.media/p/the-januar...

Well said and hilarious

So tired of all of the conjecture from Trumo and team. I want a sparkly unicorn ... also not going to happen.

Could Donald Trump be a moderating influence on an Elon Musk presidency?

Accurate ...

If you want to understand why healthcare pricing is horrific, the first thing to know is that our system puts 100% of the credit risk for deductibles, copays and co-insurance on hospitals and doctors. That's insane. We have turned them into Sub Prime Lenders 🧵

This framing misses the bigger point. As I describe in my book (bit.ly/asymptomatic...) Bhattacharya co-led a flawed April 2020 study that wrongly concluded (wrong at the time) that COVID-19 was far less a threat given a misestimation of evidence of prior infections. www.bbc.com/news/article...
