It remains to be seen where, if anywhere, the Dragon Age IP goes from here. Perhaps they're better off selling it to another studio who can actually do something with it. I don't think this series should die with BioWare, but they needed a slam dunk, and unfortunately, this wasn't it.

unfortunately. It's not enough to write the whole game off as a abysmal misfire, but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. A post credits scene teases an intriguing sequel that may now never come, with BioWare impacted by yet more layoffs and what little staff they have left focused on Mass Effect...

but at least 60% of this game is a slog. Your mileage may very. The game reviewed well and clearly a lot of other players connected with the material more than I did. The writing outside of, but sometimes within, the main story is just painfully flat and often cringey, and it sinks the experience...

I find this kind of very overt representation regressive. I don't like when someone's queerness is their entire story instead of just sitting there. Regardless the abundance of dull side content in this game is the reason it took me six months to finish. It manages to really stick the landing...

that compelling, with their boring villain of the week narratives. Much has been said about Taash, the annoying non-binary character whose gender identity is one of their defining character traits and a large part of their story. Perhaps it's extremely fulfilling for a NB player, but as a cis man...

some truly embarrassing dialogue and dull subplots. Pitiful attempts at MCU-style quips that usually just involve someone pointing out the obvious, and constant reminders of what you're doing as if the game knows you got bored and put it down for a month. I found none of the character plots all...

could simply beeline the main story, I would be able to recommend this game. But to get the true ending, you have to complete the character and faction stories, and this is where Veilguard crumbles. The cast of this game are all great on paper, with some returning faces, but they're saddled with...

zero connection to. Despite this, the main story is the clear highlight, with a number of genuinely fantastic moments that recall the BioWare of old. The Varric reveal and entire ending sequence are stellar and have some of their old magic, tying up loose ends in a powerful and emotional way. If...

this ultimately is the thing that nearly sinks the whole game. It's just woefully uneven. The main story is not what Inquisition promised us, with Solas being sidelined for much of the runtime in a game that should have had him front and center, in favor of two generic ancient god baddies we have...

a bug in sight. Truly a rarity in the modern gaming space. Kingdom Come Deliverance II is Warhorse's Witcher III moment, a triumphant statement that loudly declares what this team is capable of, and I could not be more excited to see where they go from here.

games anymore, everything sacrificed at the altar of convenience and simplicity. KCD II rewards the dedicated and punishes the unprepared. Finally, a massive shout-out to the team for delivering a polished, complete product on day one. Silky smooth performance on my PC, zero stuttering, and nary...

attempt to sell as many copies as possible, Warhorse has honed and refined its singular vision to a razors edge. People who didn't like the first game won't be swayed by this way, and that's okay. It's not for them. But it's definitely for me. We rarely see this level of mechanical depth in...

ways. The world is amazingly vast, full of secrets and things to find, but it's rewarding, not a tedious list of boxes to check like some other games. It feels alive, its NPCs reactive to the player in ways most games don't even attempt. By not trying to cater to everybody and thus nobody in an...

and the myriad of other personalities inhabiting Warhorse's meticulous recreation of their nation's bygone history form such a compelling cast of characters, it's hard to say goodbye when it's over. Henry's personal arc reaches its conclusion in some deeply satisfying, cathartic, and unexpected...

it's like a book you can't put down. As great as the side content is, I kept getting pulled back to the utterly absorbing main quest line. Henry and Hans's rocky friendship and deep trust that turns into a gradually blossoming romance (100% canon), Godwin's boozy priest/warrior is a constant hoot...
