I canceled my audible subscription (even though I had a few unused credits) and bought a Libro FM membership. @libro.fm is employee-owned & shares profits w/ your chosen locally owned bookstore. I feel SO GOOD about this! libro.fm/story

Today’s Oaxaca, Mexico wall art. The world understands.

We just launched a 16TB archive of every dataset that has been available on data.gov since November. This will be updated day by day as new datasets appear. It can be freely copied, and we're sharing the code behind it to help others make their own archives of data they depend on.

Folks: I am NOT affiliated with the group that is using my name to support an economic boycott. Please spread this post, if you would.

While home sick, I finished two books: Yellowface by R.F. Kuang (5 stars) and The Nineties by Chuck Klosterman on audio (4 stars).

Stayed home sick today due to Shingrix vaccine flu-like side effects. I’ll take those side effects any day over shingles. #VaccinesSaveLives

Finished #crossstitch WIP. Pattern is “Where the Wildflowers Grow” by Petal Pusher.

Good morning, Bluesky! During the night, I reached the 280,000 follower mark. I could not be happier to be in the sky with such excellent people as you. Thank you! To celebrate, I've donated to Trans Lifeline, whose peer support for trans folk is needed now more than ever. Onward! translifeline.org

Anyone looking for a new Tennessee home?

Russell Vought has spent his career with the Heritage Foundation and is the architect of Project 2025.

The U.S. Department of Labor is organizing a protest. Elon Musk’s staff will be present at the Frances Perkins Building in Washington, D.C., today at 4 p.m. It was mentioned that staff should plan to stay late after the 4 p.m. meeting to assist with setting up Elon Musk staffers into their systems.

I just did this. You should too.

Back on January 28 a Redditor downloaded a massive cache of CDC datasets (they say it's all the public datasets but I've not verified that). Over the weekend, they uploaded everything they had to Internet Archive: archive.org/details/2025... If you use CDC data and need access, go here first.

Panic and despair without an outlet can be self-destructive. Interrupt the doom spiral: -Do 1 self-indulgent thing that makes you feel happy or content. -Do 1 thing to make your home environment more calm or comfortable. -Do 1 thing to help your community and people in it. Repeat as needed.

A little bit of encouragement along the San Antonio River Walk today. #dontgiveup

Here’s my Storyboard reading stats for the month of January.

We went for a pre-winter storm hike at #brazosbendstatepark. I love a crisp cold #hike!

We were just setting up a new Roku account for my 77-year-old mom and got to the screen where it suggested apps to add to the Home Screen and the top 2 suggestions were Newsmax and FoxNews. So infuriating!

At any given time, I have a print book, a Kindle book, & an audiobook going. Currently, all 3 are excellent! Starling House by Alix E. Harrow, Yellow Face by R. F. Kuang, and All the Sinners Bleed by S. A. Cosby

Finally started my #snarkyandmodern temperature stitchalong yesterday

It’s Friday night. Turn off the news this weekend. Avoid politics. Have dinner with friends and family. Play board games. Go for a nice walk. Watch a romcom. Eat food that’s bad for you and terribly delicious. Ban nonsense from your weekend. Friendly advice. 💜

We’re fostering my mom’s dog after moving her from Mississippi to Texas where she can’t have a pet his size. Here’s his Adopt-a-Pet profile, if anyone in the Houston area (or within a few hours) is interested in a great dog. www.adoptapet.com/pet/43523295...

If you had told me when I was 12 (heck, 40 even) that this food was something I would willingly eat, much less cook for myself, I would have called you crazy! Recipe is “Unstuffed” Cabbage Soup from the original Skinnytaste Cookbook.

Incredible image of a spider web glistening with rainbow hues, created by light refracting through its silk threads. The colors are a result of light wave interference, much like the vibrant patterns found in soap bubbles or oil slicks! 📸: Stephen Dunn

This is just plain awesome

There is a crew cutting down our Chinese sweet gum tree. The freeze a few years ago finally did it in, & we've had several large limbs fall. Best to do this now before someone gets hurt or someone's property gets damaged. I'll miss its glorious fall colors. Here's a picture from several years ago.
