I like fanfiction. It's pretty much the modern equivalent of folklore in a way. A great, wonderful collection of "what if." I feel, though, that most fanfiction writers seem a little too obsessed with pairing people off. Makes me wonder, are you writing for the (subtext) porn or the story?
