State Senator Mike McGuire: "Of course the state of California will invest, but we need a plan to know what we are investing in. Cuts, and cuts only, will not work."

And we should add, not only have there been three Presidents in three years, AND the search for a permanent President has been cancelled. The CSU's biggest problem is the CSU itself. The governor and the legislature must intervene.

Unexpectedly, the Sonoma State Crier is a Banana Slug. We look forward to your presentation on March 10. Thank you!

What he is asking is, "What is the plan to prevent the CSU's plan from being implemented?" And the answer is that the CSU is drafting the plan to prevent the CSU's plan from being implemented. You can guess how that's going to go. We need another plan.

I wouldn't want to blame these legislators for the chronic, dysfunctions of this legislature, and CA politics in general, which pre-date their tenures. These guys are clearly on our side. With that said, I agree that we need a sea-change in how the legislature thinks about higher education generally

My feeling is that Chancellor Garcia will not survive this. Our legislators rode in like the cavalry, and they spent five hours on a Friday night cleaning up the CSU's mess at a moment when they have so, so, so much else to do. The CSU's administrative leadership has been exposed for what they are.

President Cutrer’s inability to issue a plan in 30 days should be recognized as a strategic weakness. Our athletes would know what to do when nobody is guarding the net. Strike fast and publish unopposed every day.

Also: "Even the departments that are being dismantled have been making money up to this point...Yes, we need funding, but the current leadership of the CSU has demonstrated that it cannot be trusted to guide us in alignment with our primary mission. Accountability must be put into place.”

Rogers: "How big is the Chancellor's Office budget?" Garcia: "We'll have to get back to you." Rogers: "...I am concerned that the Chancellor's Office does not appropriately view the legislature as a partner or the community as a partner, and I look forward to your commitment to do so in the future."

We'll talk about this more, but note well that President Cutrer said it was impossible to hold an in-person forum on campus, there was no room big enough. But our state legislators had no problem holding an in-person forum on campus. That is because they care more than she does.

“Sending an email is unacceptable,” McGuire said. “This is not corporate America, and real lives are at stake, and they need to do better … The way we got here? Not acceptable, and now we got to get out of this.”

Thomas Jefferson: "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, it expects what never was and never will be."

"Our plan reinstates Division II athletics and programs vital to campus life. We reverse cuts to all programs and avoid unnecessary layoffs...We can no longer afford to allow nonteaching outside administrators, who typically stay only half a decade, to steer our university into the ground."

"All the programs proposed for cuts actually earn more revenue than they cost in expenses. The administration’s plan does not make dollars, and it doesn’t make sense. Cuts do not equal savings."
