To clarify: a meritocracy would mean the most qualified would be hired, not the absolutely least. I get that it’s confusing, both words end in a “t” and are one mouth-sound long

Welcome to the month in which people rejecting civics classes have civics immersion and suddenly experience that govt is concrete, not abstract

An inspiring article on courageous community college leaders who are *publicly* organizing and standing up against DEI attacks.. www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...

I am not making this up: Republicans have introduced legislation… to increase your bank fees.

The Times spoke to people being trapped inside a Panama hotel after deportation from the US and the individual stories of horror are almost too much to bear www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/w...

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

Monday inspiration!

I found this site incredibly affordable and easy to use, for no particular reason: hellowisp.com

This Wall Street Journal video about the cost of military deportation flights is one of the wildest things I've seen in a while. It cost $2.8 million—with 2 in-air refuelings!—to deport 104 people to India on February 4. $27,000 per deported person. www.wsj.com/video/analys...

CISA – a federal agency that helps secure elections from foreign threats and disinformation – has placed its employees on administrative leave. The move puts the security and integrity of elections in the U.S. at risk.

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicine—generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefits—is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.

Holy shit. This is fucking nuts.

The DOGE website is reportedly hosted on non-government servers, not secured against database attacks and can be easily defaced, 404 reports www.404media.co/anyone-can-p...

Got my first "Violating an Executive Order" and "I'll make sure you lose federal funding" parent threat today for teaching "DEI" books in our upcoming "Liberty and Justice" themed unit. Even in "Blue" Massachusetts we're dealing with this. Anyway, don't obey in advance, and don't obey later.

Proud to be one of the 350 rabbis signing this statement — an ad in the NYT today and a declaration of our values. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025... For more—and to sign— go to saynotoethniccleansing.org

This is just one of thousands of harrowing stories told about the U.S. Government abandoning Americans abroad in the USAID shutdown. This is Benghazi times a million. 1/

Throughout U.S. history, wrecking the economy has been great for the 1% because they buy all the wreckage at cheap prices. So: we need an entity to transfer property to that is somehow protected from our evil overlords.

A coalition of news organizations said in a court filing that video exhibits from a Jan. 6 riot case had "disappeared" from a government platform that provided access to evidence used in court.

Very excited about this thread and @equalaccesspublicmedia.org !!

The meaning of neoliberalism is the drive to privatize and sell off public services, and that is exactly what Trump’s team is doing.

Yes. “People are doing things. You will meet them when YOU start doing things.” Lots of information and resources in this one. open.substack.com/pub/sherrily...

POTUS spent approximately $17M in taxpayer dollars to attend the SuperBowl. Where’s DOGE on this waste? Meanwhile, a dozen eggs at my local grocery is going for $7.49 because bird flu is still spreading. CDC and NIH are facing massive funding cuts.

US farmers sold $2 billion of food to USAID. Not any more. - US farmers provided 41% of food delivered by USAID - $340M of purchases/shipments are now paused. Over 680,000 tonnes. - Food stranded in Houston - Aid stopped in transit. The world’s poor starving, food rotting & US farmers screwed.

Costco, which has come out saying it supports DEI, will make no changes to its existing programs, AND pays workers a minimum of $30/hour, is up 15% YTD. Target, which announced it is ending all DEI programs and has a minimum wage of $15-$24/hour, is down over 4%. Keep voting with your wallet.

Hey folks, here's a new substack post about my week so far--having lots of feelings and stepping into courage. I use the analogy of building Ikea furniture, though I think I am one of the only people who actually enjoys building Ikea furniture? open.substack.com/pub/sonyahub...

I do appreciate how creative humans are and how they can make songs about the fall of democracy that really slap

Just in case you thought that removing DEI criteria would mean that everyone is competing equally: NIH is removing grad students from underrepresented backgrounds from the applicant pool altogether. Their applications will not be considered. Other students, not from these backgrounds, will be.

THIS IS IT. The special general elections for Florida’s 1st & 6th Congressional Districts are on APRIL 1, 2025. If we flip these seats, we can STOP Project 2025. No excuses! Mark your calendars! Show up!

Jasmine is on FIRE 🔥 🔥🔥 "...we are going to be in your face, we are going to be on your asses, and we are going to make sure you understand what democracy looks like... ...and this ain't it!"

Well done, more of this!!

This is exactly what we want to see from Democrats right now! There’s no excuse for Senate Democrats to be confirming any of Trump’s nominees while MAGA’s illegal power grab continues. If you’re represented by Sen. @schatz.bsky.social, be sure to thank him for fighting back against President Musk.
