Wind warning posted for our local area. Hi-Rez models show some 70 km gusts for this afternoon and we’re definitely seeing a pick up out here. Keep an eye out for fallen branches and debris, just in case the storm ends up stronger than anticipated.

Well, I suppose this is about right.

Interesting. Models have calmed right down for our Monday storm. Good news I guess. I’m seeing Our Lady Peace tomorrow night in Victoria!

Looking like a powerful wind storm is on its way for Monday-Tuesday. Models showing prolonged periods of over 100Km/h gusts for Sooke. Will provide updates as we approach.

Sooke looks to be hammered with wind on Wednesday. #bcstorm

Alertable just sent this out for Sooke.

Coming down hard!

Alertable just sent out this advisory for Sooke and surrounding areas, estimating 5cm snow by this evening.

Snowfall estimates for Sooke and the South Island in to Tuesday.

Definitely looks like between Saturday and Monday, Sooke will be getting a disruptive amount of snow! Anyone wanna guess which of the models is telling the truth? 🤣

Special weather statement issued for Sooke area regarding snow. Models are still sparring over exactly when this might occur so stay tuned!

This coming Saturday looks like there’s a chance of snow in the Sooke area, especially at higher elevations. As per usual, it is looking touch and go whether we receive rain or snow due to our low elevation and proximity to the water!

Intensifying cyclonic system moving NE off Vancouver Island. Here's a projection for around 3 AM December 24. 100 km/h+ gusts on the outer coast. Impacts in the Metro Vancouver area expected to be minimal. @bobmackin.bsky.social @bcnewsaddict.bsky.social

Everyone else is playing the lookahead game. Let's take a peek all the way to Friday, at wind projections for coastal areas of SW BC. Let's agree it's going to be a windy week on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Ferocious bomb cyclone to bring severe, hurricane force wind gusts to parts of northern and western Vancouver Island Monday night. Full forecast available for the BC south coast in the link below! ⬇️ x.com/southcoastwx...

Potential bomb cyclone threatens severe winds over coastal sections northern and western Vancouver Island, Monday night. The storm will make landfall on northern Vancouver Island or the central coast in the early hours of Christmas Eve. Stay tuned for updates! #BCStorm #BombCylone

Carefully watching a powerful low approach the NW tip of Vancouver Island pre-dawn Christmas Eve. A low inside 130°W with this pressure normally spells pretty big trouble with power outages and damage for Vancouver Island. #BCStorm

Had a quick look, and all models I have access to seem to agree about 60 mm of rain for the Sooke area by Wednesday morning.

Category 2 atmospheric river in store for the BC south coast Tuesday and Tuesday night, with rainfall amounts up to 75 to 100 mm for parts of the region, over the course of 24 hours or less. Full forecast available on X! Link available below ⬇️ x.com/southcoastwx... #BCStorm #AtmosphericRiver

The streak of windstorms continues… (1/3🧵) #BCStorm The forecast is straightforward: if you live along the water, expect wind gusts of up to 100 km/h. The North Island will see much less impact compared to the recent bomb cyclone.

Wind and coastal flood warnings are in effect for the region around #Ucluelet and #Tofino on #VancouverIsland. Stay safe storm watchers. Should still be some good waves Saturday afternoon when the winds die down a bit.

Powerful SE windstorm in store for the BC south coast Friday afternoon through Saturday! Campbell River,Tofino, and Ucluelet may gusts past 100km/h near the shores. Full forecast available now on X! x.com/southcoastwx...

#wawx #bcwx #orwx I am keeping a close eye on some windstorm potential this weekend as a strong low moves up north just off the coast. This morning's EURO model run shows a 984mb low going INTO the Olympic Peninsula with 50-70mph winds.

Some big waves and blustery weather ahead!

What in the cyclone Christmas party... This evening's EURO model has about SIX different storms 965mb or lower spinning around like they drank too much eggnog. The weather pattern 10 days out looks very variable. No confidence in any one solution, yet. #wawx #bcwx #orwx

Ridging has returned after a wet weekend, but it won’t last longer than several days. A SW storm track is anticipated to setup later this week, potentially bringing another wet, stormy weekend for the #BC south coast. There is currently a risk of low elevation wet snow for some as well.

Significant rainfall totals anticipated today through early Sunday. Parts of western Vancouver Island may receive up to 150 mm of rainfall, with up to 90 mm over the lower mainland and Fraser Valley, near the mountains. A rapid rise in streamflow levels is expected. #BCStorm #BCRain

After a break of stormy weather, rain and blustery winds return to the BC south coast this weekend. Heaviest rain will be over western and northern Vancouver island, as well as the north shore mountains and Fraser Valley. Refer to my X for full forecast. #BCRain x.com/southcoastwx...

The M7.0 earthquake today is at the triple junction of 3 tectonic plates. It is historically the most seismically active part of California

We have just had a M7.0 off the coast of northern California. It is at the triple junction of the Pacific, North American and Juan de Fuca plates

Worth emphasizing.

The latest tsunami warning email from USGS indicates no further tsunami threat to the California coast, so there’s a large chance that the threat will also (or soon will) pass for BC.

The models are coming into agreement for a windy day in Sooke Dec 7th. High res models (HRDPS) showing a gusty day now as well. Icon has been consistently reducing wind values over the last few days but still shows 70-80km/h gusts throughout the day.

youtu.be/sbqGirDs3YY Pattern Change Watch!

How trustworthy is the Icon 4 days out? It’s giving lengthy windstorm on the South Island beginning Dec 6th. #sookeweather

Most of the stratus/strato Cu looks to be pushed out into the middle of the Strait due outflow so we're left w/some cirrus streaming over the top of the upr ridge to the west. So more optimistic now about a nice day coming up #YVR

Tranformed damage out near Enumclaw from the last windstorm!

Models seem to be tightening up. Consensus for Sooke is a Friday-morning wind storm with gusts anywhere from 70 to 90 km/h. Looks like Gusts will be a little tamer in Victoria, gusting up to 70 km/h in the early afternoon.
