In the many rubbish things I lived through in 2024, my cat and dog both passed on. This weekend lovely, though damp with rain, tail-less but v handsome cat befriended me in the Groove Bar Shipley and I was happy to host

Oh this is sad 😢 just finished the chapter on seals in the brilliant book ‘Black ops and Beaver Bombing’ by @fionamathews.bsky.social and @timkendall70.bsky.social

Exciting this will be in Leeds!

Some happy news in amongst the not

Drinks at the Record Club. Curry at the International. Feathers McGraw at the Media Museum. Then event #rise for Bradford City Culture. Brilliant!

The English badger cull is such a huge wildlife tragedy it is now being covered in @newyorker.com. The killing needs to stop.. www.newyorker.com/culture/drin...

A walk between the rain yesterday and there was a rainbow right from the Damart tower in Bingley

Ban foreign nationals from making political donations in the UK via their corporate empires Or risk billionaires like this piece of shit having even more influence on UK politics www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Too many people can't walk to the pub, shops, school, doctors or to see friends of family because there is no safe way to go. 7 in 10 agree we should be able to use field margins if there's no safe alternative www.theguardian.com/environment/... buildstories.slowways.org/life-or-deat...

Great news! Thousands of miles of footpaths that faced being lost forever could now be saved after the government committed to lifting a deadline for all rights of ways in England to be mapped. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I really like it too. 4 episodes in and it’s now laugh out loud funny. Judge Marianne on Walter Presents

55mph gusts of wind made for a lively parkrun. A blowy walk after along the towpath and a beautiful rainbow.

“When you’re raped there is shame, and it’s not for us to have shame, it’s for them. It’s true that I hear lots of women, and men, who say you’re very brave. I say it’s not bravery, it’s a will and determination to change society” - Gisèle. What a woman.

They are laughing at us. Yorkshire Water CEO defends plans to increase bills by 41% after collecting £371,000 bonus. Bonus for what - dumping sewage, paying dividends, increasing debt, financial engineering, neglecting investment, fleecing customers? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Your Water Bill is going up £90 in April. Rewarding failure with more money, and guess what? They will fail again and need even more. End Privatisation, Nationalise, NOW.

Well, they’ve worked hard this year bit.ly/49JkNAv persuading @Ofwat to approve a plan to make customers pay for the investment their companies have failed to do for 30 years because they paid shareholders and bosses instead

Samples from 23 river & lake swimming sites were found to contain levels of E. coli up to 20 times higher than would be deemed safe in 🇺🇸 ,as well as medicines used to treat diabetes & seizures Antibiotic-resistant infections ⬆️ ⬆️ with 66,730 last year v 62,314 in 2019. Most were caused by E. coli

Disgusting. A new University of York study has found that sites popular with swimmers around the UK to be suffering from pollution with bacteria and chemicals alongside resistance genes that could limit the effectiveness of modern medicine.

Dramatic pink skies from the train this afternoon

Lovely to see some sun. Cold crisp morning at Beverley parkrun

Fighting building anxiety with afternoon off work and visit to North Cave, E Yorks. Spawk and Kingfisher w fish highlights. It worked!

Please don't turn your lawn into plastic. Plastic grass reduces food & shelter for wildlife such as bees & butterflies; has a high carbon footprint; sheds micro-plastics which wash into our rivers and seas. Create a wildlife-friendly space instead. More bit.ly/3wE67P8 🐝

Madness. Cannot comprehend it

Sparrows enjoying the accidental bird bath in my garden, and ignoring the fancy one bought for them

Listening to Kirsty MacColl (CD - old school), what a brilliant talented singer and songwriter she was. Such dark funny songs

Same!!!

So glad John’s ok! www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/ar...

Argh yet more relentless fireworks. Every afternoon and night now since September. It’s horrendous. I lost my old dog in September and in a way it was a kindness, the constant bangs turned her into a shivering drooling wreck. Ban them for public sale I say.

You will feel sleepy, you will do as I say! 😊

After a really poor swim session yesterday, which I abandoned in the end; just swam really well tonight, after my long run too. Swimming - an ongoing mystery.

Gamekeepers shoot beautiful owls like this Shortie on a routine basis. That’s how Grouse Shooting operates. It’s the definition of unsustainable. Let’s move our uplands into the 21st century and ban it. Please sign here petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70... #ukbirding #ornithology #yorkshirebirding

Beautiful pink skies with the sun rise earlier this morning.

It’s been a torrid year, but tonight marked my return to 🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️ racing. It’s been a journey, some dark days, and this a line in the sand. Happy to be back on the start line again, and back to what I love. Onwards!

Great stuff by top actor Brian Cox writing in @theguardian.com - why Scotland should become the world’s first #RewildingNation, with nature recovery across 30% of land and sea. Follow the link in his letter to sign the Rewilding Nation Charter. Please share! www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Communicating the impact of our cultural, creative and innovative graduates to our economy and society is so vital. Data needs to feed these narratives. Arts education matters and must be supported and valued

Long run day: miles and miles of lovely canal side flatness. Towpath: no.

BREAKING: The latest #COP29 text falls woefully short. The finance package is too low, too weak, while critical acknowledgement of nature has been entirely erased. This is more than disappointing, it's dangerous. 🚨 Leaders—don't walk away without fixing this.
