They think it was exactly like all the movies and sitcoms from the era. Everyone was happy and middle class! Everyone knew their place! No annoying minorities making them uncomfortable! They cannot tell the difference between fiction and history.

What is with the "and may very well be untrue" dodge? These people are congenitally incapable of taking their own side in a fight. SAY THE WORD LIES!!!

Here's another angle from Fox News reporter Bill Melugin of Sen. Alex Padilla getting roughed up by law enforcement after he tries to question Kristi Noem at her presser:
“I’m Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary. Because the fact of the matter is, a half dozen... Hands off!”

The media firmly believes that liberals and leftists are 100% wrong and not real Americans. If that's not true tben they have to change their opinion of themselves as savvy intelligentsia, which they will never do.

They have to tell themselves stories where Trump's actions are a complete out-of-the-blue surprise, because if it wasn't, then A. People they hate were right and B. They were complict.

Their trump card (pardon the expression) is that neither they nor their supporters care about bloodshed. Therefore they can escalate all the way to violence without consequence. And eventually the protesters are going to have to back off.

They do not want liberals or progressives to have anything at all. Not even a place to talk to each other. It rankles them so much to know that they are not the center of the universe.

"Once he read a not-so-funny line written for him by a comedy scriptwriter, so all is forgiven."
The bar is in earth's molten core at this point.

The guy who has only one thing going for him -- a high IQ test score -- so he makes that the only thing that is important about humans, so naturally he should be in charge.

Fiction: Finally getting around to The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller.
Nonfiction: Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari, because my uncle the teacher recommended it.

Playing the right winger namechecks Jesus card. So now if anyone objects it's because they are godless communists who hate religious people.

Of course, nobody mentions the fact that lots and lots of baby boomers moved out and often moved cities at age 18 to get away from their parents, and that was in the days when even calling them on the phone was difficult and expensive.

I've used the name Sophronia as my "alias" since I was a kid and read it in The Five Little Peppers (which is not a good book, so don't read it unless you love Victorian children's lit)

No, it doesn't -- but I'm glad you asked, because I had never heard of Zenna Henderson and her work sounds intriguing!

Ruben is being a smartass. He thinks the guy came to the U.S. because he felt threatened in Venezuela, so now let him see how safe he feels in a El Salvador torture prison, amirite guys?
The cruelty is the point. Always.

They want to sell the message that Democrats are liars. They want people not to trust Democrats.

I'm betting the NYT figured they could get some young podcaster to do her job for less money and get way more attention. Oh well.

Pamela Paul brought nothing to the NYT. She had the exact same boring opinions as most of their other columnists, she had no independent name recognition, and she had been at the NYT for years so probably had an inflated salary.
