also sorry to spell it out but i want to be super clear - when I say "it makes it so it's legal to tell them they can't" - that doesn't mean they won't, it means if they do, they are breaking the law and whatever arrests they make could be thrown out if challenged in court

also to clarify - they're not gonna just obey a sign. theyre going to ask if they can go back there and if someone says yes then they can. the sign makes it so that it's legal to tell them they cant

Btw re the warrants my trainer said the easiest thing to do is just to say you don’t consent to searches, not open the door, and then let them break your door down if they have a court order bc 1. They very likely do not and 2. It can be hard to tell the diff between those warrants under pressure

I know it seems hopeless but we still have a legal system in this country. “Why bother doing this if ice doesn’t respect the law” is a form of compliance. People knowing the rules makes their jobs harder - they complain about it all the time lol. They want to arrest AOC for telling people this info

This is also why it’s important to record ice interactions and to have people say explicitly out loud that they don’t consent to search. Also when I say a warrant I mean a judicial warrant - ice uses their own “administrative warrants” designed to deceive ppl but they need one signed by a fed judge

A lot of people are rightfully observing that ICE doesn’t respect the law let alone stuff like signs. But when ICE does something illegal like enter a space they need a warrant for without consent and without a warrant, the immigration cases that follow from that action are subject to dismissal.

The next most important thing you can do is call your GOP member's office every single day. When I worked in the Senate, in every single weekly all-staff meeting, we went over the phone calls we'd received.

So we’re not in a “first they came for” situation anymore. We’re in “they’re coming for” disabled people. They want us fired from our jobs, named unfit to work, prevented from getting education, and labeled as a threat to good, healthy Americans. This is not conjecture. This is happening.
