Spain and Italy proposed the Trans-Sahara pipeline in 2010. Both receive gas from Algeria through pipelines. They proposed expanding the pipeline to Nigeria so it can compete with russia in selling gas to Europe. Northern Europe dismissed it as a waste of money. It might be worth reconsidering now.
