Great first game! The Hearts of Pine should be very proud of their big win.

🧵1/5 Republicans are crying foul now that we are moving forward with a budget after Senate GOP sunk a bipartisan agreement last week, only hours after they voted 31-2 in favor of it. Yeah, it hurts my brain too. In a rather transparent move, they gave us their demands in a series of amendments:

The better Maine kids do, the better each of our communities do. The continuing services budget includes funding 55% of K-12 public education costs, and funding for free school meals for all students. 🧵

The continuing services budget is a responsible, governing budget. During a time of deep uncertainty in Washington, D.C., this budget provides predictability and stability that Maine people and communities across the state need – and are asking for. 🧵

This continuing services budget fulfills the state’s obligation to provide 5% municipal revenue sharing to every city and town, ensuring communities across Maine have a strong foundation to craft their own upcoming budgets, and keeping property taxes from rising even faster.

This budget is in balance and it leaves $127,000,000 in the General Fund. Money we will certainly need as we move forward. But one of the most important things that this bill does is provide stability and certainty. We are living in very uncertain times. 🧵

The continuing services budget will allow Maine communities to prepare their budgets knowing the state will maintain its commitment to revenue sharing and its statutory obligation to support K-12 education. It makes sure our most vulnerable neighbors can access the health care they need... 🧵

Biddeford-Saco Restaurant Week is now underway! The FYOOD competition should be a lot of fun this Wednesday. It's just one of many special events and offerings happening this week around the area. To check out how you can support local businesses and what spots are doing to celebrate, head here ⬇️

Happy 205th birthday, Maine! There's a lot to love about our state, from fresh lobster to yummy poutine, stunning mountains to winding rivers, local breweries to top-rated restaurants, and so much more.

The work of the Appropriations Committee today brings us one step closer to addressing the urgent need to close the MaineCare gap and keep the basic functions of state government going without interruption. 🧵

Supplemental budgets are typically straightforward, since they address urgent needs. But the tumult of the past few months has shown that after lengthy negotiations and two agreements that fell apart, we cannot count on Senate Republicans. 🧵

The House has done its job. We passed the supplemental budget in a strong bipartisan way. Compromises were difficult but necessary and ultimately led to a deal that two-thirds could get behind to enact the budget immediately.

Do you need a new smoke detector? How about some help installing it too? The American Red Cross is teaming up with the Biddeford & Saco Fire Departments to install FREE smoke detectors on April 12th. For more info & to sign up, head to this link. You can also call 1-800-464-6692 (Option 4).

I recently had the opportunity to meet with The Honourable Bernadette Jordan, Consul General of Canada in Boston, and René Sylvestre, Delegate with the Québec Government Office in Boston. Maine and Canada share a border, but we are also connected in terms of our economies. 🧵

The Supplemental Budget includes critical funding for MaineCare. If it does not pass in a bipartisan manner, Maine people - including children, those with disabilities, and the elderly - may lose access to the care they need to stay healthy and well.

Tonight the House held a vote to censure Representative Laurel Libby. Sharing images of kids online without their consent is a clear violation of the bond of trust and respect between citizens and their Legislators. 🧵

It’s incredible that a Maine GOP leader can call for the federal government to defund our schools and that’s not newsworthy.

I'm coming to Fort Kent for the Can-Am and would love to hear from you at our town hall! Join me and Senate President Mattie Daughtry this Friday at 6 pm. All are welcome to join us.

Watch for yourself. Republicans voted unanimously in committee to advance the bipartisan supplemental budget after repeated negotiations. Then, one member decided to upend this work. Democrats are committed to upholding our end of the deal. We hope our Republican colleagues will do the same.

Politicians long abided by not using kids to score political points. All kids deserve better than to be used as political fodder for internet bullies. Kids should be able to focus on being kids. They shouldn’t have to worry about a politician sharing images of them online without their consent.

It took less than two months for Rep. Fredette to take the reins of the House Republican Caucus. He didn’t need to be formally elected to leadership to be the caucus leader.

Happy Presidents' Day! What started as a celebration of George Washington's birthday has come to be a day of honoring great presidential acts. Since his debut in 1944, Smokey Bear has been beloved and supported by Democratic and Republican presidents alike. 🧵

The contrast could not be more stark. In 2023, a Democrat was indicted for the SAME reasons. Speaker Talbot Ross called for his resignation. Billy Bob said back then, “…he respected Ross’ decision to call for Collamore’s resignation.” He doesn’t respect my call for Rep. Hall’s resignation? Why?!

As Rep. Gattine said on the House floor, the supplemental budget is a true emergency. It fulfills the state's obligation to fund MaineCare, so we can keep hospitals and nursing homes open and ensure health care for half of Maine children and one in three Maine people.

Read my statement in response to the indictment of Rep. Hall:

Fredette, who has led GOP into this ridiculous posture, says hospitals can go into debt. He created this mess when he undermined Approps leaders who negotiated a 11-0 budget. What will it take for Fredette to pass the budget & protect hospitals & nursing homes? www.pressherald.com/2025/02/13/h...

I jumped on WGAN this morning to be crystal clear about where we stand on the supplemental budget. Take a listen:
