The swastikar looks better somehow. Elon Musk - you hosebag. What a sick psychopath for sure.

@cdnresistance.bsky.social We in Northern Wisconsin (on Lake Superior) fully support Canada not sending any oil through the U.S. Enbridge has killed too much of our wild lands already. An empty Line 5 sounds great to us.

@pete-buttigieg.bsky.social Northern Wisconsin wants to secede to Canada. Are you coming along? Please? :)

My heart breaks for all victims and their friends and families of last nights horrific air crash,,, it’s a time of grieving and strength and love,,, not politics. May God bless everyone with strength to get thru this tough time together.

@anneapplebaum.bsky.social I have learned so much from you. Seriously, what do I do when threats become real? I'm a privileged American. I don't know how to be a revolutionary, part of a real resistance. I'm a bookseller. I need to know exactly what to do. I'll take on meaningful risk.

Seriously, what do I do when threats become real? I am a privileged, white American. I don't know how to be a revolutionary or a part of a real resistance. I'm a bookseller. Somebody needs to tell me exactly what to do. I'm willing to take on risk. What is meaningful risk?

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman announced federal immigration authorities will be permitted to arrest people and carry out enforcement actions in and near places such as churches and schools, marking a departure from long-standing policy to avoid so-called sensitive areas.

If I get beaten up and gunned down in the street by the American Nazis for my LGBTQ status, or for defending my liberal bookstore, just know that I went down fighting. Please take care of my mother for me... and help her sell my LEGO collection for a fair price. 😉

Texas is one of the country's testing grounds for anti-library legislation and many states have attempted to duplicate their legislation. We're tracking 14 anti-library bills in the state. bit.ly/4g6yRW3 via @everylibrary.bsky.social

Check your privilege. If you're not scared right now, it's because you are not on their hit-list. You, your family, your job - all safe. For the rest of us: Resist and Persist.

"So many terrible posts, awful comments and memes, so much hatred. I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around all of it and finding the right words, so for now, I’ll just say this…. Dignity, respect, love, and grace is the outfit that fits everyone perfectly. Try it on." No can do. Nope. Never.

Michael Fanone live on CNN: "This is what I'd say to Stewart Rhodes: Go fuck yourself"

4th of July parade: Home Depot doesn't have a float, Costco doesn't have a float, Walmart doesn't have a float, Target doesn't have a float. I was reminded, again, how much is missing in terms of the local ecosystem of businesses here. - Chuck Marohn

We have to change the underlying rules of the game in such a way that the hidden costs of the Big‑Box retailers are actually forced on to their balance sheets.

In order to be on the shelves at Walmart, products have to use less rugged material, less rugged sewing processes, and so on. The result is a product that doesn't last nearly as long. You might be paying less, but you're having to replace it more often. You have to throw things out and replace them.

Big Boxes have dominance in our economy, they have undercut two pillars of the American middle class. #1 - small business owners. We've lost hundreds of thousands of those. Businesses that typically supported a family, were anchors in their community's local economy. #2 - manufacturing jobs -gone.

There's a ton of research. This bog box store is going to destroy more jobs in the long term than it's going to create. It's going to cost more in public services than it's going to generate in tax revenue.

There are huge hidden costs that we all pay. One is the fact that a huge number of their workers rely on public assistance, because they don't make enough to get by. Walmart is a hugely profitable company, but most of the people who work there are on public assistance. Low wages are the cause.

There are also a lot of tax loopholes. Walmart, for example, they've been able to get out of paying income taxes in about half the states. If you're a small business, you can't do that. You're paying income taxes on 100% of your business earnings. Guess what? Your biggest competitors are not.

When you develop a mall or a Big‑Box store, it LOOKS like you're creating economic expansion. You've "created jobs, you've created tax revenue". Walmart received over a billion dollars from local governments to fund its expansion, and of course local stores never get this public money.

As a town’s smaller stores slowly close, the laid-off workers often seek out employment at one of the few stores left in town: for example, Walmart. This means that Walmart can cut costs even more by paying its workers less, because there’s no job market.

Hold Amazon responsible for training readers in general to expect $0.99 ebooks and $1.99 paperbacks. Amazon sells books at a loss, so their pricing isn’t realistic in the book world.
