Are there areas that can be improved? Of course. Are there people taking advantage of the system? Undoubtedly. Do those failures mean that the system as a whole should be trashed? No. Not when the net benefit those systems provide is unquestionably positive. 8/

The simple truth is that the systems in place to monitor the operational functionality of government already work and it's thanks to people like the ones that Trumpusk are attempting to clear out of the civil service. 7/

The discussions about it being a COBOL database and there being an epoch date that defaults to 1875 are a distraction as well, albeit well-intentioned by the folks mocking Musk and his lapdogs for not actually understanding the data they're looking at and waving in front of people. 6/

But nothing about what Trumpusk is saying suggests they're planning on taking any actions to actually address those failures. They're just going for social media and memetic influence points. 5/

Keep all of that in mind when Trumpusk blathers on about finding millions of people in the SSA database who are 100+ years old and getting paid benefits. Does SSA need to do better about maintaining their database? Yes, absolutely. The IG report indicates that very clearly. 4/

And that they found a total of 18.9 million data entries for people in that category? And that only ~44,000 were receiving Social Security payments? And that represents 0.013% of the US population in 2023? 2/

I definitely understand that. Talking with my friends here in DC even the folks working at various agencies under attack feel weird saying it. That doesn't excuse those in the media who aren't calling out the illegal actions as illegal though
