March 18th. ❤️

Happy Caturday from Macho!

❤️

Simon Stålenhag

Hello everybody. Remains is a magazine created by Andy Cox and Richard Wagner. The first issue has just been published and the second is out soon. We are rubbish at social media but look forward to making new friends and talking about stuff.

"Polly Schattel's 8:59:29 is an expertly rendered fable of moral conflict... It's a tale of demons and hexes, of class and education, and of technology's pernicious expansion as a governing social force. Wicked, sardonic, intelligent horror fiction." -Mike Thorn, author of Peel Back and See

Now reading. I missed this one the first time around so I’m just getting to it now. I heard Kurt Cobain liked it. It’s fabulous. Not sure how I missed it in 1985; back then I was reading Peter Straub and William Kotzwinkle, both great writers. So I missed Suskind’s PERFUME. But not any more!

"The Big Tide Haida Title Lands Agreement affirms that the Haida have Aboriginal title over all of the islands' lands, beds of freshwater bodies, and foreshores to the low-tide mark. It will transition the Crown-title land to the Haida people, granting them an inherent legal right to the land."

My beloved Path of Thorns (@titanbooks), for whom the film option has been purchased by @veronicawain ... And I am, in my copious free time 🙄🙄 writing a novella about Asher and Eli ... Which has no home/publisher, but just so you know. Sssh, don't tell my editor because I owe her 4 other things.

2/19/25 - "A pair of sisters are hired to find--and if necessary, dispose of--whatever is killing neighborhood pets in a dying town." AGATE WAY by Laird Barron

A snippet from the Aurealis review by @jemofthebrew of The Crimson Road. 💚💚 "The Crimson Road bolsters Slatter’s luscious collection of novels that intertwine fairytale with richly-imagined settings, brilliant and formidable female characters, and winning storylines where anything could happen."

Okay, I cannot recommend 5calls.org enough. Enter your address and it will find all your reps (federal and state). AND give you a list of issues to call about AND which reps to call about each of them AND a little script for each, in case it's helpful. They have an app, too.

I am sooooooo excited! Bound proof cover artwork for ‘No One Would Do What The Lamberts Have Done’. It’s perfect! Everything about this book, from first idea to right now, has felt like an incredible treat with magic powers. And magic twists! Cannot wait for actual copies!

Watching Oscar-nominated films, and here’s a favorite: funny, cringy, moving, and profound. And that opening and closing shot. Whoa. #ARealPain #OscarNoms

"I am not going to apologize for asking for mercy for others."

Very excited to have my story “SWING BACK” slated for publication in COME OCTOBER: AN ANTHOLOGY OF AUTUMNAL HORROR from C.M. Muller. No preorder links yet, but I’ll share as soon as they’re available! https://chthonicmatter.wordpress.com/come-october-2/

Park Chan-wook has made a film adaptation of Donald Westlake’s novel The Ax. Can’t wait. I loved the book, a funny and brutal take on job market competition.

María Irene Fornés advised writers to be more like theatre actors. "An actor doesn't stand in the wings deciding whether or not to go on. He doesn't say maybe he's not feeling it tonight. He goes on." Go on. Write.

The ebook of House of Bone and Rain is just $4.99 for a limited time! Every copy pushes me closer to a second contract with Mulholland, so please get you some. It’s dark and violent and weird and strangely beautiful and full of magic. Many thanks! www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CP...

Really happy with the review that Fever Dreams of a Parasite by @pedroiniguez.bsky.social received from Publishers Weekly! Read the full review here: www.publishersweekly.com/9781947879867

Hey I have a new novel coming out in September

David Lynch opened and held a place for art that other creators could point to whenever a potential editor or producer wanted to turn their work down because it was too weird, and get that work made/published etc. He kept proving audiences weren't dumb.

This important idea about fear and work is important in so many realms — including the classroom.

It makes me uncomfortable to talk about meanings and things. It's better not to know so much about what things mean. Because the meaning, it's a very personal thing, and the meaning for me is different than the meaning for somebody else. David Lynch

I discovered that if one looks a little closer at this beautiful world, there are always red ants underneath. David Lynch
