Just been down the swordfish rabbit hole. I knew they were well used but I hadn't realised just how tough and effective they were. They were perfect aircraft for what they were used for, as long as you delt with the fighter threat
comment in response to post
Ofc one of the things there is just how much use they were put to. If you are actively using them you will have a higher attrition rate. Ofc doesn't help if your including the torbeau into comparisons, but that was just a complete bruiser

His gun is to the rear and the tank behind him is a M4 Sherman

Ah the old parenting excuse, works every time lol

Yeah was surprised you got that wrong 😜 Mind you for such an iconic vehicle there is a lot of types in a very small period of time

That's not a Mk I, it's a MK V*, ie a lengthed Mk V.

That gun is on a portee truck, so its not exactly mounted, more clamped for transport, although that one looks like it can fire from the truckbed, they were still towed pieces for combat off truck. It was a hack to ensure AT guns could move fast in the desert

A reform run IWM would be interesting, especially when it simultaneously explodes and implodes as it tries to fix the official "errors" in it's collection. The regendering of tanks would be fun
comment in response to post
The IWM call it a type 95, so whoever wrote the precis probably confused the 2 and picked the wrong one

Finally someone else that agrees that fictional detectives are serial killers hiding the crime. Still don't know how Miss Marple got away with it for so long

Thank you for the clear summary, I have learnt a lot about the position of AI companies from this thread. So next step is one of the big providers get real-time AI LLM data gathering into cars, although I would guess Google or Apple could do that easily through phones

OK that's fair, I guess I was just doing to much at 5 o'clock to watch it a great deal

There is an odd social memory of Byker Grove and Grange Hill that everyone watched it. Tbh I cannot remember if I ever watched a whole episode of either, but I do remember it been on TV. I do sometimes wonder how much is social memory over individual memories

The big question is, what on earth is it meant to be used for?

There are 15 countries that this is the case still, Australia, Canada and New Zealand been the biggest (interesting as all 3 held domino status at the height of empire) What I found surprising was Jamaica still has the king as head of state.

You got me there

Hmm not quite a sea shanty, the tempo is to fast and the call, reply structure isn't there. You couldn't use it work a task with It is an entertaining sea story song though

I find it interesting how often he goes on about the social contract, but at the same time admits to frequently breaking with it and placing himself above it. Speeding laws are a part of a social contract in that they are there to reduce risk to others

You can add some percussive parts to a flute or recorder by the way you breath but it is limited. Just like you can sort of fake certain cords. There are musical tricks for each instrument and there is always someone that likes Using them
comment in response to post
The counter to that is surely that creators should have access to your wages as asking would reduce their ability to make money from their work. I am curious what the legal side effects would be after the first time such a clause is tried in court

I love the sound that comes out of my wood bass (it needs some tlc though). Btw the mandolorian theme is perfect for Bass recorder I don't like the keyslap on plywood contrabass, but some composers use it as part of the sound.
comment in response to post
It's cheap, easy to learn to play simple tunes on it fast and becomes an amazing instrument if you gain proficiency. Tenor and Bass are fantastic sounds, ofc by then it stops been cheap 😂 My flute has better range, but I love my recorders

You sure it's Thirsk, I know the town well so want to identify where that photo is taken

He hasn't a clue does he? Apple are masters at bypassing tariffs and customs duties, they just screw around with US customs until the tariffs disappear. Even with tariffs it still be cheaper to make the phones outside the US

Hmm chieftain Vs panzer III bit extreme 😂

As a note Russia wasn't banned due to the invasion of Ukraine, at least not directly. It was banned as it kept breaking the rules of the EBU and ESC. There should be action against Israel, but the question then is should ESC stop been apolitical, actions that would block a few countries

Evri would have had Charon doing a part time multidrop and expecting to deliver faster than Santa at full speed with a GPS system that maps every address to the 5th circle of hell, and still find no one in
comment in response to post
That's correct. We had a lot of stuff named after John Churchill, one of the most renowned British Generals of the 18th C. the Brits named infantry tanks after generals The only naval ship named after the PM is the USS Churchill

The irony is that this train was used by the Somerset Light infantry, not the Home Guard. Although after 1942 the 12 other full sized armoured trains were Home Guard. Also this was the only one to shoot down aircraft (3 kills)

Pretty sure Mr Phillips must have bred and now has kids across the world. Only reasonable explanation for all the ship crashes recently
comment in response to post
As used in the novel "footfall" to secretly launch a ship from Earth to fight the Aliens who had invaded it. The space shuttles with railguns as supercargo were fun, like the bomb pumped lasers fired by dropping them in the ships wake. Is a tad mad part of the book

Novik is always a good read, the temiare series is still the best but loved the schoolmance series - gets quite dark as well
comment in response to post
Love the way you describe it as sort of try to stay in the fight. It was a tad chaotic

Ah yes, well a lot will know about the Russian revolution in 1917, but I get your point not many will have realised they had already left the war by that point
comment in response to post
So just ignoring 1918 completely then and the Polish invasion of Russia then

Always go recurve lol

Depends on the club and how deep you go into it, but it can be quite reasonable. Just don't look at the price of top end compound bows with all the bells and whistles.

Especially as most of this deal is to acknowledge that the rules in the UK match the rules in the EU, which were mostly as a result of the UK when it was in the EU. Therefore less hassle to trade.

So basically everything happened that was predicted to happen. Didn't take too much research to see this was going to be the outcome of Brexit

You would! Lol I just get them stuck in my teeth, there is always one that will annoy you for hours

Smoked mackerel is better than kippers, less bones lol.

Well the polish managed to briefly have a bit if success with their TKS against the Germans, the British Matildas (a sort of halfway house between tankettes and light tanks) were pretty useless and it seems half the world flirted with a carden-Lloyd. The Panzer 1 could be called a large tankette
comment in response to post
I'll keep that in mind

Ah I hadn't realised Italy had invaded France in 1940, so possible. Although the Germans did capture 1000s of them
comment in response to post
That is a French vehicle and so is probably a vehicle the Germans repurposed after 1940. Interesting to see it in Italy

D-sub plugs are always the wrong way around or have bent pins. Someone always manages to fit a VGA into a D-9 socket

Russia was banned for violations of the broadcasting contract for Eurovision after the 2nd warning. So if you want countries banned you have to prove they broke the Eurovision rules.

Well it was one way to deal with the potato famine and that had an interesting result on the Union. Not sure if the encouraged emigration policies of the 19th Century would be a good match for the current UK government, countries aren't as easy to persuade to join an Empire anymore
