Too much of the ES community is self referential memes at this point. It always bothers me how much of the game is lost for memes and fan service.

I need to find some more hopeful books to read that don't feel like running away. I don't need a temporary escape, I want a direction to go or something actionable to do.

There definitely is some trauma associated with that book because of what was happening around me when I tried to read it. But it also feels like my gut is canary in a coal mine. Like we're not too far away from tear gas in the streets again.

Freebie. I love my partner. They make every day better and have filled my life with joy and love. Obligatory post because deep down I'm going to be this guy when we get married:

4. GMing. I love roleplaying games, world building, and getting to share that all with my friends. It gives me a chance to stretch my desire to write and run wild with my imagine while also having a good laugh as the story goes off the rails. I wish I could do it more.

3. Skyrim. It might not be the best videogame, but it's world has me hooked. I really liked Oblivion and tried to get into ESO. Skyrim always manages to catch my wonder and if feels like I'm exploring a familiar place from my childhood.

2. Star Wars. I've always been a fan of it, and my parents have several stories of me destroying VHS tapes by rewatching them so many times. The Assualt on Echo Base from Episode V is peak, and you can distract me by playing it.

1. I love Mechs. Something about them makes my inner child scream with delight. My favorite kind of mech is one that shows up by surprise in a media that didn't otherwise foreshadow them OR chekov's gun-ed a mech where it was hinted at early on and then used in a fight scene later on.

A lot of our political beliefs are directly tied to how we view ourselves, so expressing them can feel like a way to affirm are values when it feels like the world is going against them. While it can be a good way to release stress in the moment, it's not going to effectively convince someone else.

I'd probably use PF2e because they have a ton of material for ships (and plenty from D&D 3.5 I could adapt too) if I had to run it tomorrow. I'd also consider Savage Worlds. If you gave me a few months, I could maybe put it into a system I'm working on 👀

I was trying to avoid that method just because my Google docs are so clogged up anyway.
