The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

An update for anyone following the saga over the TRO in the foreign assistance freeze case.

BREAKING: USAID contractors/aid recipients say Secretary Rubio and USAID leader Peter Marocco should be held in civil contempt for violating a court order to lift spending freeze.

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS @democracyforward.org request to allow expedited discovery in lawsuit challenging DOGE access to Department of Labor data. First instance of discovery being permitted in the Trump accountability cases. Visit Democracy Docket for more info. www.democracydocket.com

Note how weird and vague the investigation of Schumer is: Martin says “I have reached out to Schumer to investigate the threats.” That’s . . . That’s not a thing. That’s not how investigates work. The U.S. Attorney doesn’t call the target. So….. /1

This is a pretty extraordinary filing by the gov't in the USAID foreign assistance case. Long story short, in spite of the court's grant of a TRO last week, the USG is still freezing and canceling foreign assistance. www.courtlistener.com/docket/69627...

Today at 4pm ET, @benjaminwittes.bsky.social will talk to @annabower.bsky.social, @tylermcbrien.bsky.social, @rparloff.bsky.social, and @sranderson.bsky.social about the status of litigation against actions by the Trump adminsitration.

The fact that Bove thought that putting this ludicrous set of facts and arguments in writing (and then perhaps leaking it to the press) would in any way made his decision seem more legitimate and less corrupt is reason enough to seriously doubt his judgment.

This is almost certainly (among other things) an effort to tee up shutting down the dissent channel process, which allows State Department staff to channel critical views to senior officials and was a recurring pain in the first Trump administration's side. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Tomorrow at 4pm ET, @benjaminwittes.bsky.social will talk to @sranderson.bsky.social, @annabower.bsky.social, and @rparloff.bsky.social about the status of the civil litigation against President Trump’s executive actions, including his firing of inspector generals, and more.

A few thoughts on the absurdity of using cybertrucks as secure vehicles in high-threat areas, from someone who used to live in one: 1. These are the most distinctive vehicles in the world, so it will be very easy for hostiles to identify American officials to shoot at. ...

On Rational Security, @sranderson.bsky.social, @tylermcbrien.bsky.social, @lapatina.bsky.social, and Joel Braunold discussed the week's national security news stories, including President Trump's plans for the United States to “own” Gaza, SDNY dropping the charges against NYC Mayor Adams, and more.
