agreed! And the Dept isn't even a coequal branch of gov. It's not a branch at all!

also . . . good god, you just shut down all of the research your dept does that would indicate which programs are most effective and the best use of $ spent. Also, according to the admin, aren't the states supposed to be very inefficiently doing their own research to determine?

what does, "And experiential learning packages all of these skills together" mean? (. . . trying to suppress the teacher in me that wants to insist you add a verb and make it a complete sentence, but mostly I want to know what learning package?)

dab smack in the middle of the "the longest, wickedest street in America" ;)

interesting-- thanks. Sounds like a happier version, instrumentation-wise. I love the Dub feel in the original that's missing in this cover, but I see why you like it as its own creation!

or maybe not, right? if the riot was in '81 and London Calling was '79

Been listening to that song for nearly half a century and never knew its reference. derp! Glad to learn today!

She, ala DOGE, cancelled the grants from the DOE that were studying the best ways to use AI (and not use) to improve student learning. Letting the markets determine how tech should be used in schools is a bad, bad move for kids.

yes, it's radioactive but harmless. You'd have to grind up the glass and eat it before I'd even start to worry.

I love little tiny things!

I think we need to bring back the common use of canes. And for hiking!

me toooo! I mostly look at the gardening feed. I also like the Birds! and Corvids of Bluesky! feeds because I dream of befriending a murder of crows one day. Also recommend following the Daily bunnies and Owl Daily--leaning into all things feathery and fluffy.

I've been listening to The Decline on repeat A LOT.

yeah, I sold my best records to buy baby food and diapers. I still like the kid, so I guess it's ok.

lots of people replacing grass with clover, which might be nice with some mossy areas?

sucks, sorry. My oldest, Bon, asked for her HS diploma (graduating this spring!) to be issued in both her legal and actual name, which wasn't the original plan. Luckily Denver Public Schools has always been very obliging on this topic.

Actually, no part of the The Shining was filmed at the Stanley. Took the ghost tour a few years ago. The interior shots were of a few locations, but primarily a place in England. The exterior shots were in Oregon. Inspiration is all it gave, as King stayed there as it was closing up for winter.

My mom told me that in the 50s there would be sock hops under the 'Welcome to Golden' sign on Washington st- that a band would play and everyone would throw their shoes in a giant pile and dance in their socks. Now I always think of that when I see this sign.

something like a cherry tomato would grow in a bucket ok with a stake, just wants to be warm, and it's prolific-- so you'd be eating them all summer.

I've read several folks who recommend a place that gets part sun/shade. Or even mostly shade--I've used the north side of my house.

I like the outside, far too modern inside.

welp, I work for a non-profit that is primarily funded by federal grants, so I've had better days.

I don't know about the West, but if you were in East Germany, Russia exacted revenge--raped and starved civilians were forced to clear the rubble. So many men were killed in the war, that the bulk of the public were women and children.

He's clearly not aware of much. Russian thistle is an annual too, so no amount of water or anything else is gonna prevent it from dying, detaching, and rolling around to spread its seeds--'cuz that's what it does! (we have a bunch 'round these parts. I really hate them. They are very flammable)

I always think about this while at Costco. It's cheaper, ultimately, to buy in bulk, but you need a bunch of money up front to do it.

Thank you for writing this! You have mastered a key aspect of stoic philosophy!! And I needed reminding. 🤗

I went to see Fugazi that year. $5 and a can of food to get in. Stupid Denver skins started doing their dumb ass antics, which was a common prob back then. Fights ensued, Fugazi stopped, yelled at the nazis, and then refused to continue playing. show over. It was good while it lasted. . .

Saw ALOK on the Daily Show the other day and they expressed something similar, in death we find our common humanity. . .
