The cable doesn't run directly to the battery; typically it will run to somewhere near where the battery cable meets the inverter, where the charging controller and contactors also usually live. In a lot of cars that's roughly middle of the traditional engine bay area.

Shorter HV cabling is preferable in cars, for safety and weight, and the front is too prone to damage. For a front-wheel-drive car, in front of the a door is often a logical choice. Petrol stations don't skimp on length -- I'm not sure why we should put up with it from power sellers.

I'm not sure what record you're referring to. All BYD models sold here (Australia) are 5-star Euro NCAP rated, and their LFP blade batteries are a very safe design.
