I was right here in that this kind of thinking is like a DM's worst nightmare. I love Noctum as a character, but I really ought to just play a fun barbarian who likes a good fight or something.

Noctum invents something that no one really questions 'who invented this' yet is totally ubiquitous, like zippers or velcro. he becomes wildly rich, but gives most of the money (save for living expenses) to charity, and continues adventuring for fun.
He doesn't like to tell people about it.

actually, maybe he's already retired from whatever he did before? he's got a lot of DIY/machinist youtuber energy, like This old tony, or Workshop Companion, or Peter Brown.
