Getting Started

Our paper on Stopless-ORF Circular RNAs (socRNAs) is now out in Cell. By high-res tracking and comparing translation by either single or multiple ribosomes, we find that ribosomes cooperate to overcome pausing to ensure fast and efficient translation www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...

A new mechanism for cancer-induced immune evasion. We knew about cancer cells hijacking mitochondria. Now we learn about how their mitochondrial transfer to T cells impairs the tumor immune response. www.nature.com/articles/s41... www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Instead of listing my publications, as the year draws to an end, I want to shine the spotlight on the commonplace assumption that productivity must always increase. Good research is disruptive and thinking time is central to high quality scholarship and necessary for disruptive research.

A quick snapshot from a fluorescence microscope, taken during a teaching session with medical students, showcased the fascinating world of mitochondria. The students were excited, asking many questions about why cells transfer mitochondria (MitoTracker-Red) via tunneling nanotubes (actin-green).

#TunnelingNanotubes are long filamentous actin-based cell protrusions that create communication networks between cells, especially in cancer. Here, an especially long nanotube transmits GFP-expressing oncolytic virus, a mechanism for propagation of the bystander effect. www.cell.com/molecular-th...
