therefore it's context-dependent. if someone says "I read 63 books last year!" and includes audiobooks in that count, great!
if someone says "my third graders can't read basic sentences and that's a problem" and someone else tells them to try audiobooks - not great!

however, for the definition of "decoding written symbols and understanding their association with spoken language" then audiobooks do not count. that kind of reading is a skill that has to be taught and no amount of listening will improve it

it all depends on the definition of "reading." for the definition of "absorbing narrative/information from words that someone else wrote" then yes audiobooks count. HOW you absorbed the information is irrelevant!

the way you become better is to notice, accept, and work to improve your flaws. if noticing/accepting your flaws is a threat to your identity of being "one of the good ones," you will resist it at all costs, and will paradoxically become worse in the process
