So this week I was in SF. Visited the Presidio and saw there was an exhibit on Japanese Exclusion at the Officers' Club, so we went in. My teen has been learning about Fred Korematsu in civics, and I want him to understand this history. The exhibit was powerful. But--

*New* campaign action on Marks & Spencer - any help getting the first few signatures going would be greatly appreciated! actionstorm.org/petitions/ma... We're sharing this first on Bluesky as this is so much friendlier (and troll free, so far at least!) than any of the other platforms right now!

Temu sellers dodge millions in tax — by pretending to be UK firms Rogue traders grab details of innocent British small businesses to avoid VAT. Billions of public revenue lost. Tax dodges result in unfair competition, threaten jobs. Make platforms liable for lost VAT. archive.ph/cmiJZ

I want to tell you a story. In 2015, I was in the small Lithuanian city of Panevežys, standing with the locals, watching a military parade. But this was no ordinary parade, because marching alongside the Lithuanian troops were our American allies.🧵1/17

Silence will not shield scientists from the consequences of an increasingly hostile political landscape. UK and other non-US scientists must act to support our US colleagues. Here's what I think we should be doing... 🧵 1/35

FACTS AND TRUTH MATTER youtu.be/HpmDquOkSCY?...

It matters that scientists speak out against what is being done to US science. Staying silent is neither "objective" nor "staying out of politics". Silence now *is* political - it supports the status quo, says "nothing to worry about". We need to sound the alarm. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Majority of universities now have only four options: 1. Specialise, shrink, give yourself a skinnier USP; 2. Federate, group together with regional partners; 3. Merge, as a uni with less-bad finances absorbs one or two others; 4. Go for training, become an FE and apprenticeship hub.

Trump in a nutshell.

‘There is a habit of people saying "science should not be political", but science changes our world and our possibilities so it has no choice but to be political. This collection of essays is a vital read in a world so often obscured by those whose only interest is money’ - @robinince.bsky.social

Starting to binge on this guy's videos. He makes a lot of sense. Oh, for the world to be led by CONSCIENTIOUS economists (and biologists, naturally)! But people do like voting in governments that the right wing media tell them to. I blame free will! 😜 #ZATAOSLOE www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRAf...

How on earth do you satirise this unadulterated mince?

Wow there’s new video of the Delta flight landing and rolling over at Toronto’s Pearson Airport yesterday….incredible all survived 🙏

Wow. I mean just fucking wow.

YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS: CDC disease detectors—fired. The Trump administration is using a hatchet, not a scalpel, to slash jobs during a bird flu and measles outbreak. At this rate, we’ll be relying on word of mouth for disease outbreaks like it’s the 1700s.

UK public services face cuts of up to 11% to fund defence spending. This to appease Trump, will hurt the less well-off, won't fuel economic growth. How about cutting corporate subsidies, taxing the rich, creating new money, chasing tax dodgers, ending profiteering, windfall taxes. archive.ph/wr0zC

Elon Musk is requesting all the IRS data so he can see all the taxes everybody has paid. One of the first things the Nazis did was go through Social Security data and find everybody who had never worked. They then murdered every disabled person who hadn't.

Trump plan to enslave Ukraine. Demands $500bn “payback”, wants control of “mineral resources, oil and gas, ports, other infrastructure" in perpetuity, control economy. Ukraine must pay US before feeding its people. No penalty on Russia for the invasion. Politicians or gangsters? archive.ph/0El3f

This Guardian article on brake pad dust misses some fairly important context EVs use friction brakes far less than internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, because of the magic of regenerative braking Meaning they produce less of this toxic dust A 🧵 www.theguardian.com/environment/...
