Looking forward to attending a talk with @whisper447.bsky.social at the Norfolk Record Office on The Secret Lives of East Anglian Witches tomorrow at 1pm.

Bundle of joy, wax seals and endless documents. On a roll chasing that elusive Sir Edward… again, leaving no source unturned at the Norfolk Record Office.

Fucking gorgeous! This is how it's done my friends. #Genealogy

Converting old IrishGenealogy URLs to new ones: 1) Old URLs to civil records begin 'civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/' 2) Which now redirects to 'www.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/' 3) Change to 'www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/' and your document image should be there.

I'm feeling a pull towards anthropology, particularly the social-cultural concepts of kinship. But how do I make that step via genealogy?

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service. “Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.

@ckolonko.bsky.social You're going to be so pleased. I'm learning about GIS for mapping historical data.

Me: I need to remove these books from the coffee table to make space Also me: I need these books to reference and I will forget if they aren't in my eyeline And so the cycle of book-piling on the coffee table continues...

Time for a mini #ConcreteThread. This time I’ll be joined by @stephaniekw.bsky.social, who has now been successfully converted to concrete cause. We'll be taking a quick look at my favourite pillbox. But we'll look at it from a different perspective. Thread originally posted on Twitter in 2021.

It is clear that data critical to genealogy (and other disciplines) is being systematically stripped from federal websites. Census Bureau data IS being removed, and census data geeks at IPUMS verify and are taking whatever steps they can to preserve the data for the future. Scary times we live in.

This is what revisionist history looks like, in real time. And this also is why it might appear that archaeologists and historians have to dig deep to discover the existence of powerful women and marginalized groups -- because their legacies are so often erased.

Yep, neeeever happened. Back then, everyone had full-term pregnancies that lasted for about 3 months after their wedding.

There is a lot of disinformation happening about the Census and Census resources - schedules, instructions etc. Yes, it was down, but now www.census.gov/about/histor... is back up. Furthermore, all of this information is at the National Archives - every Census, every schedule, enumeration maps etc.

Indeed, if you have a parent or grandparent from any EU country, you may be eligible for citizenship of that nation. Worth half an hour of homework surely. I've helped people find the documents relevant for Irish people.

Tell me you don’t want people to know the truth. Now more than ever I find being a #genealgost is important work. We are family historians. We believe in history and noting it. Now I feel a new sense of purpose. Perhaps it’s time to start sharing their histories and their family histories.

There aren’t enough hours in the day for me to show you how many of the people arguing against birthright citizenship would not be citizens if not for birthright citizenship. #ResistanceGenealogy
