I wonder if they are my relatives. My great great grandfather was Abraham Valk from Emden.

I was not very familiar with Schiele when I visited Vienna for a weekend. I was completely blown away.

I think this is likely to change soon when people realise that many EU citizens won’t have any of the documents listed. I don’t know why they don’t accept Public Service Card. I will write to the Minister of Justice about this. You could get an Age Card from the Garda.

It will be interesting to see what happens to an EU citizen presenting an EU passport/identity card together with a utility bill/bank statement as proof of address in Ireland.

I was looking at the guidance for Irish residents claiming an exemption (within CTA) and the list of documents accepted is very narrow. An EU citizen living and working in Ireland may very well have none of the documents listed. For instance, an Irish Public Service Card is not on the list.

You are cheering “LONG LIVE THE KING!” and you are a Democrat? For real?

I remember cycling from France over the Pyrenees through Larrau, Ochagavia, Lumbier - incredible scenery.

People are so disconnected from nature that they can’t even remember how different things were 40 years ago - I remember vastly more butterflies, ladybirds, other insects, hedgerows…

I have a flat wooden spoon I have used since I was student >30 years ago. I had a Royal Wedding mug from 1982 which I broke recently. :-(

The signs say you are supposed to pronounce it “ó-quis-sô” - is that wrong?

Candidates are often chosen by party central office and in most constituencies only 1 or 2 candidates have any chance. Voting for your preferred candidate is usually a “wasted” vote. If the UK abandoned the honours system and adopted PR, politics would rapidly become more sensible and democratic.

I wish someone could do something about The Irish Light and all the “Kalergi Plan” stickers appearing all over the place.

It’s hard to blame just the electorate when the political system is so silly and decrepit - first past the post, knights and lords and ladies…

That’s the one - I was living in Belleville at the time. It was an interesting contrast with synagogues I had been to in the UK.

Is the last of those in the 20th? I went to a sephardic synagogue in the 20th once about 30 years ago and that one looks familiar.

I'm not sure but I'm not planning to deactivate my count completely. I'm just going to delete all my posts, replies and likes and just leave a message that I'm now on Bluesky.

You stop someone else using your Twitter handle and impersonating you. And you can leave a bio/message directing people here.

I roasted our left over Halloween pumpkin and made a spicy lentil and pumpkin soup today. I’m feeling embarrassed that I have never done this before.

An old favourite - and I only discovered recently that the building is a former synagogue

If you have an iPhone clicking on “Show Reader” solves that problem.

The central library was a big part of my teens as well. I can remembering borrowing opera CD box sets and reading completely random books about Japanese folk tales or Roman Britain.

Ireland has less divisive politics but still fails at delivering on infrastructure, housing, etc - it’s partly a failure of state in-house capacity/expertise compared with France/Germany.
