100+ Common Quaker I think is nearer my annual catch. Will have to crunch some numbers later

That's quite a pint. I'm sure I read that a beer with Parrot in the name, brewed in Sheffield at about 14.5% was the strongest beer, but that was probably 30 years ago

One in South Wales somewhere last night I think I saw on @migrantmothuk.bsky.social earlier

I remember the first time I saw one of these on Mull - went on a walk up a valley with two quite small kids at the time and kept looking up at birds of prey in the sky and thinking "is that...?" - then we say one... no questions. It went dark for a few minutes as it flew over...

Had one about a week ago which was my earliest by 5 days, but have had them right through to mid-April

I can strongly advise against breaking your foot... #boot #crutches #pain

That's a 'like' in a not liking it at all sort of way. Congratulations (though gritted teeth) your team showed up for it and wanted it. Mine didn't

That had its moments (not least when I was slowly waking up to it one Saturday morning only to hear a colleague's voice on there πŸ˜³πŸ˜†)

Ah the late John Peel. Used to love his broadcasts

Indeed. One word: Sewage

I'm not sure that's the level of encouragement he was hoping for!

Crazy! Never seen an orange underwing even fleetingly up in the sky let alone in the trap!

Nice. Very nice!

Almost invariably the first species I record each year. Yet to see one this year. I don't believe for a minute they've been eradicated!

Had the pleasure of playing her suite for brass band, The Unfortunate Traveller, recently - one of her early compositions that languished for many years unplayed after its initial performances

Let me see if I can dig out the instructions I sent to someone a while back...

I've had some joy with my own hand-crafted LED combo - 3x 3W LEDs - one each of UV, emerald green and royal blue run off a power bank, or 2 sets of 3 run off a mains-powered LED driver. There a right pain to solder though because they come pre-mounted on a small heat sink

That one looks like Beautiful Plume

3x Brimstone, a probable Small Tortoiseshell (I'm rubbish at the orange/brown butterflies!) and 1x Pammene giganteana to FUN lure here in South Cambs

I was just about to say that's high up my wanted list

If only there was an edit post option... That is, of course, St. Andrew's Church. No Steve involved (except for the one taking the photos!)

Wow. Have to admit that was a bit of a wild guess, as it must be at least 10 years since I last went there

Beautiful! Wondering where it is - Paxton Pits? Fen Drayton? Somewhere on the Ouse washes?

If it's not too rude to ask, would you mind sending me a copy? (Feel free to tell me to Β£&@#!* off, I won't be offended!)

Good effort. I tried a few Oligia and November aggs last year with a hand lens as they're supposed to be easy. The first couple took some reconstructing to figure what I was even looking for 😳πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜‚

I suspect my actual day-job lab coat which was last seen by me sometime pre-pandemic has by now been either washed or incinerated (although I am now wondering what happened to the clean spares that were on my desk when I cleared it when everyone else went back to office)

Follow me and see who I follow - most of that is moth-related (or super-nerdy (or occasionally both!))

Might try rearing some this year. Plenty of mines the last couple of years on the planes in the local parish churchyard

And finally, Pale brindled Beauty - the first photo seemed heavily marked to me but but I can't make it anything else (and it's a bit early, if we still believe in phenology!)

Also, an Agonopterix alstromeriana being a bit of a prima donna. This early in my mothing obsession became one of my favourites - mainly because they're relatively easy to identify and have a cheeky bit of colour when you look closely...

OK, my bets are: Earlier one - dC Later one - DC
