WE MUST FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTS & HUMANITY FOR OUR DEMOCRACY FOR US

happy international women's day to trans women in particular

Scenes from #StandUpForScience2025 in Boston, MA!

We need to organize--let’s help each other. NIH is cancelling grants, but it's not clear exactly what they're cancelling and why. Without this information, we can't respond. I've started a Google Sheet to track grant cancellations. Please add any canceled grants you know of and spread the word!

Democrats even *thinking* about joining Republicans to censure Al Green for having the courage to stand up while they sat down do not deserve to be able to generate a single fundraising dollar from a person of moral character ever again.

Fighting courage & risk taking is the only way we get out of this.

Welcome to the Bluesky account for Stand Up for Science 2025! Keep an eye on this space for updates, event information, and ways to get involved. We can't wait to see everyone #standupforscience2025 on March 7th, both in DC and locations nationwide! #scienceforall #sciencenotsilence

Well now I’m definitely going to protest today. And I’ll wear a mask if I damned well feel like it.

🔬 Let’s fight to protect the future of science! 🔬 📢 📢 Join us as we gather to defend science from interference & censorship. Let’s make sure our govt officials hear loud & clear that we will not back down! 📢 📢 This Friday 12p – 4p MA State House Let's promote the power of science TOGETHER!

Get in good trouble, necessary trouble.

NIH cuts are getting the press, but VA research is getting slashed too. What do we lose when VA research goes away? Here's some greatest hits: The nicotine patch, invention of the cardiac pacemaker, first successful liver transplant, development of the CAT/CT scan prospect.org/health/2025-...

Universities really need to pay attention to this. It's not just about the indirects and frozen funds. If these layoffs continue, which by all signs are continuing and going well beyond probationary employees, ***these agencies will not be functional, including NIH, CDC, and NSF***

Such cowardice by @nationalacademies.org. National Academies is altering pending reports to appease Trump administration, some members say www.statnews.com/2025/02/20/n... via @statnews.com

I hope state DA’s are as quick to file a lawsuit over this racist policy using our education system to assert bigotry and #racism as they were about the feds freezing funds. This is a fight for #equity, #equality, #freedom, and #education @jeffjacksonnc.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/02/17/u...

👇👇 you cannot disentangle politics from science. It’s in the way you ask your questions, the way you collect and analyze your data, the way you present your results

BTW, if you have a FSA or HSA and the funds don't roll over, this is a great way to spend them down 👇

Howard University is now a R1 university, the first HBCU with a research one designation. H-U definitely knows!

Shout out to everyone else who struggles to focus when the world is burning 😵‍💫

NEW: Federal workers are starting to receive a copy of the court's restraining order against the Trump administration barring the regime from freezing federal grants and financial assistance. Excellent work, and worth the read:

We need an organized effort. No one can do this alone, and we cannot rely on hierarchical structures (“oh faculty will take care of this”, “the university higher admin will do this”) to save us

Silence will not protect anyone www.cnn.com/2025/01/27/p...

When I was 5, I loved science, which I took to be planets and magnets and chemicals and shit. Soon I realized science was a collective human activity, and these were just the objects of its attention. Anyway, whenever I read an OpEd on how science isn't political, I think "Are you 5 years old?"

"We can't do things the right way because we don't expect our scientist peers to understand it" is a ridiculous sentiment that comes up way too often in clinical research.

I can’t emphasize this point enough.

The incredible @tejenson.bsky.social talking about environmental injustice and MAIHDA at #ISEE2024 @bostonu.bsky.social 🌿🌿🌿
