Like for example... Wouldn't the first wave of colonization be something drones and automation could support? I would think the first humans on a planet could arrive to fully built structures and basic infrastructure. Note: I don't get hung up on this detail to the point I can't enjoy the story.

I couldn't resist... Gemini / CoPilot / Claude / ChatGPT renders Claude... What was that? (All images are variations of pictures from the prompt: A collection of cardinals eating pizza out of delivery boxes)

First thing that came to mind: "Do you have your 15 pieces of flair?"

Little tiny screws. Millions of them. I think some of them are loose.

What kinda mainframe? I may have prompted a few IBM O/S revisions in my misspent youth. πŸ˜‡

I always thought it was so it didn't ask you to confirm... i.e. short for the --for-real flag.

I appreciate 8-tracks not being there because they deserve to be forgotten. I can l also remember the joy of Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits - the first DDD (full digital record/master edit/ final recording) CD that came out. And yet my kid is now buying vinyl?

This also provides workers with a legal method of coming into our country and working. If after being part of this program for a period of time (years, with no criminal infractions) perhaps there would be a path to citizenship. Any felony would immediately disqualify them and cause deportation.
comment in response to post
This would accomplish multiple goals: - encourage Self-Deportation, reducing the cost - focusing enforcement actions of ICE to only the criminal elements that aren't working in the first place - providing the agricultural and construction industries with a stable workforce

In order to join this program, foreign workers would need to register in their home country via an app. Anyone already in the country illegally would need to return home, register and then return. Anyone found in the country not registered after a certain date would be deported and ineligible.

Now, as for how I work, I have Cursor.ai running on a Macbook with a Rancher container running SQL Server, so I can build a React / .NET Core app fully locally. It's a dream! It will be deployed in Azure once it hits mvp state.

Hopefully I didn't come across argumentative. I've worked with companies that had to have any open-source python code checked via static & dynamic tools _and_ code reviewed before they could be added to the "allowed" code store. Fear of malware slipping into a build chain is real.

There's a big difference between using an operating system that is tightly controlled yet open source, and pulling down some willy-nilly open source code from GitHub and building an Enterprise app. It comes down to vulnerability management.

Does unbiased journalism exist? I don't think cutting off the 1% will have an effect on NPR, but there's a case for having separation of funding and politics. NEA is a good example. If all art has to pass a political litmus test, anything that passes could be considered propaganda.
comment in response to post
Not really. Most likely market value. Without comparison to other outlets, it's hard to know. Taxpayer Funded: A small portion of NPR's budget comes directly from federal sources, primarily through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). This accounts for less than 1% of NPR's annual budget

Cool. I've done the flashlight 'wand' method before.

Now that I reread the post, I think I misinterpreted it. I was assuming it was a camera filter and not a modification to lighting for the foreground. Late night reading...

My company splurged on a MacBook Pro M3 Max in Pretentious Space Blackℒ️ so I feel covering it with stickers would be hiding it's obvious superiority from the world or at least the coffee shop.

@kylec.bsky.social - regarding the password fiasco... Have you contacted the state CISO to see why such lax cybersecurity practices exist? Passwords do not belong in an Excel file. I think part of the blame lies with them for not managing this better at a state level. Thxs for your reporting!
