THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS Unions, and progressive legislation.

Mother of autistic boy left with £10,000 debt after breaching DWP rules by £1.92 a week. The "cliff-edge” approach has inflicted cruelty on over 100,000 carers. Rules must change. Govts need to divert focus to tax dodgers, corporate crooks, the City.

UK Treasury threatens Defra with £4bn bill if Thames Water temporarily nationalised. Can't have temporary nationalisation - public purse nurtures the failed entity and then it is handed back to private sector for more fleecing. Need permanent nationalisation of the water industry.

‘Lib Dems beat Labour in local elections for first time in 16 years’ Party also wins more seats than the Tories, claiming Conservatives had worst results for an opposition in history. #LibDems 🔶🔶🔶 #LocalElections2025 www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/202...

One for Labour strategists to ponder. Compulsory voting would have a big & largely positive impact on elections here, diluting the power of polarising issues that rile up true believers and focusing attention on the centre ground and the disaffected (because of they all vote you can’t ignore them)

For those in Britain thinking about electoral reform, Australia's preferential voting system combined with compulsory voting surely would not be the worst option? Has shown itself to be quite open to independents and (geographically focused) smaller parties...

Why is the Guardian ignoring Lib Dems coming second with best ever local election results? NOT ONE MENTION OF LIB DEMS OR ED DAVEY IN ANY ANY OF THE 3 PAGES OF GUARDIAN POLITICS HEADLINES 😠

The Conservatives lost about the same number of seats that Reform won. LibDems won a roughly the number the Labour, give or take some Greens. Seems to me that left/right split is roughly the same, but I'm just a punter.

Labour supporters feel deeply that their party has turned its back on them. It’s not just that they feel they are not being listened to. It’s that the Starmer and Reeves government is doing things that they believe no Labour government should ever do. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

"If you're worried about the rise of divisive populist politicians like Donald Trump and like Nigel Farage, it will be the Liberal Democrats standing up for true British values." @eddavey.libdems.org.uk

UK Court of Appeal says Tory Home Secretary Suella Braverman did not have the power to create a new law to lower the threshold for ‘serious disruption’ and enable the police to ban/restrict protests. Parliament didn't approve the law, Braverman sought to override it.

Keir Starmer under fire from Labour MPs after byelection loss to Reform UK. Starmer was the only party leader not to visit Runcorn. Toxic? Busy purging the left, alienating traditional supporters. Must ditch Tory policies. Redistribute, end tax perks of the rich. Abandon disability benefit cuts

Reform win by exciting their base and driving turnout. Once again, progressive politicians think that in order to defeat Reform you need to pander to Reform voters. No. You need to excite *your own* base. Stop the new austerity. Fix the economy. Rejoin the EU.

Southern Water boss says people need to use less water The only industry that charges people more for selling less. Everyday story of England's water companies - Leaks unplugged, no new reservoirs, sewage dumped, mega dividends, customers fleeced. Nationalise.

Don’t forget to vote if you can today. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c3...

If Starmer stopped chasing far right Farage’s inhuman policies and chased Ed Davey’s policies instead, this country would be a much kinder and fairer place to live.

The UK's National Insurance Fund Account has a surplus of £86.4bn. It supposedly funds pensions and benefits. But benefits cut, two-child benefit cap, winter fuel payment cut, the 1950s women denied pension rights. Raided for Tory NIC cuts to the rich, NIC holidays in freeports.

Mark Carney, "The lessons of Brexit are beginning to be applied to the US" "When you break trading relationships you end up with slower growth"

Another one for @senschumer and his fellow brave letter writers

www.theguardian.com/politics/202... How humiliating can being out of the EU get? Canada - Elbows up! UK - Knees bent.

Trump ‘makes trade deal with UK second-order priority’. Trump wants tax cuts for US tech companies; destruction of the NHS, food, environment, consumer, worker rights. Don't want to be the 51st state. Better off joining the EU, trade deals with Commonwealth countries.

Congratulations to Canada! #Carney

UK growth forecast to slow sharply as Trump tariffs take effect. Must change economic policy. Must increase domestic consumption. Boost purchasing power of the bottom 50%. Need equitable distribution of income/wealth, investment in infrastructure.

Do we celebrate Ed Balls Day in the New World of BlueSky? I think we should uphold traditions.

A very happy #EdBallsDay to all those who celebrate it

Things Labour have just left broken. Voter suppression via tighter ID. FPTP in Mayoral elections. Stuffing the Beeb with populists. Offcom. Attacks by X and FB on democracy. Foreign financing of political parties. Universities. Brexit. Child poverty. What did I miss?

This is something I genuinely do not understand. Why does Labour not do something about it now?

Why are we not doing this? Never seen a more "no brainer" policy. Even people who are the most strongly opposed to immigration tend not to object to top scientists coming here.

No England water company boss ever punished for covering up illegal sewage dumping. Only 3 people prosecuted for obstructing investigations. None fined New law promises punishment for obstruction. Dumping permitted until 2050 Execs covered by insurance paid by companies; won't face personal fines

The Post Office paid more than £600m to continue using the faulty Horizon IT system despite deciding to ditch it over a decade ago. Fujitsu collected £2.5bn since 1999 for the flawed system, paid ZERO compensation to innocent postmasters. No one prosecuted for the scandal. Will they ever be?

“We must keep calling out abnormal behavior for what it is, no matter how frequently it occurs.” Essential reading from the brilliant @chrischirp.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/christin...

This is *really* important: the reason electricity prices are high is the high cost of gas & that market rate is set by gas prices. One of the loudest calls at Everything Electric last week was to decouple from gas prices, so we benefit from cheaper renewables. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

A lot of millennials and Gen Zers absolutely noticed that Democrats talked a big game about equality, but good luck getting a job in government without an Ivy degree or rich and famous parents (preferably both). This Fosters a Certain Degree of Cynicism.

Oh, someone please send this to Susana Meza Graham!

WATCH — @carolecadwalla.bsky.social : “The Russian and American presidents are now speaking the same words. Telling the same lies. We are watching the collapse of the international world order in real time… it is already later than we think.”

Starmer told UK must repeal hate speech laws to protect LGBT+ people or lose Trump trade deal. Plus sacrifice the NHS, food and environmental standards, worker rights. Who governs? No thank you. Don't want to be the 51st state, or US slaves. Better to join the EU and Single Market.

Trump and his acolytes apparently want to increase the USA's share of the world semiconductor market, to make them more self-sufficient on that (and other) sectors. A worthy goal, perhaps - but do they honestly believe that they can magic up the investment and expertise needed? They have no clue.

Morning. Yes, the Telegraph really did publish this yesterday afternoon.

Maybe journalists should get ahead of the curve. Don’t bother reporting what Donald Trump says on tariffs, just what stocks certain members of Congress buy and sell. For some inexplicable reason it seems a remarkably good predictor

Dr Peter Marks, "Vaccines have been studied very extensively for being potentially associated with autism" "That theory has been debunked" "One study in Denmark, over 600,000 children. It shows that if anything, children had a lower rate of autism than unvaccinated children"

3 days ago RFK Jr. told the CDC to stop recommending water fluoridation, claiming it was a neurotoxin (this is a lie). Turns out he also just eliminated the CDC’s entire Lead Program, and now lead poisoned children in Milwaukee are just on their own. Lead IS a neurotoxin and harms brain development
