Good morning!

Is it just me, or is the `dotnet format` CLI command becoming an unusable mess? I'm hitting three blocking issues (on #dotnet 9, at least), so I'll have to skip using it in CI for now.

I published the second part of my series of article about writing a .NET garbage collector in C#. This time, we build the simplest possible GC, capable of running basic .NET apps without ever freeing memory. minidump.net/writing-a-ne... #dotnet

Today is the last day of CFPs for @dddsouthwest.bsky.social's 20th anniversary conference. It is a free #softwaredevelopment conference and a great reason to visit Bristol UK this April. sessionize.com/ddd-south-we...

I just noticed that I packed my presentation clicker, but my talk at #ndclondon today has zero slides! 🤷‍♂️

It's that time of year again. #ndclondon

Day 1 on the Elastic booth at #ndclondon talking all things #elasticsearch #kibana #elk. Excited to see @stevejgordon.bsky.social's talk later. Not a bad view here either. 😊 If you're around come and say hi 👋

Later than planned, but I am on route to London ready for #ndclondon tomorrow.

TONIGHT! Doors open 5pm, Mads will take the stage at 5:30 to talk about all the awesome stuff that's coming up in C#. Venue & food provided by the awesome folks from @ndcconferences.com; there's a cash bar, we'll finish by 7pm and head to the pub. Still space to sign up if you want to come along!

I'm spending this morning rehearsing and refining my talk for #ndclondon next week. Pretty happy with it, but there's so much I want to cover, and 60 minutes goes fast. Managed to hit the time limit, but then I thought of one extra thing I wanted to show, and now working out how to squeeze that in.

I wasn't sure my recovery would allow me to get to #ndclondon next week. I'm pleased to say that I think I can do it. I'll need to manage my energy and take lots of breaks. I've been able to mostly finish prepping my talk this week and I'm excited to present it.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Antibiotics are doing their thing, and I'm slowly improving. I'm home today and back in for a few more daily doses of antibiotics. Will take a while to fully recover, but hopefully, most improvement in the next few weeks. NHS staff were great.

So 2024 was the year of shingles. 2025, it seems, is pneumonia and sepsis. Yey! I'm in the hospital and doing fine. I've been feeling rubbish for over a week and assumed it was flu. At least now I'm on IV antibiotics and in the right hands. It's not the productive start I planned for 2025!

Ring in 2025 with some OpenTelemetry love! ❤️🔭 Are you a developer using #OTel? Then take our OTel developer experience survey to let us know what you think! Your feedback helps us make improvements to the project. Survey runs through January 31st, 2025. https://buff.ly/4gyZ6VP

Finally had time over the holidays to realize a long-standing dream of mine: a hex editor that knows about the PE file and .NET metadata format. You can click any byte and it will show you which data structure it is in the tree. Every byte is covered. The parser is at github.com/KirillOsenko...

Happy New Year. May 2025 be filled with fun, happiness, and bug free code!

Woke up this morning and discovered someone had been in the house leaving stuff around, eating cookies, and drinking our milk. I'm on the phone with the police now! Merry Christmas!

My outdoor Christmas lights i bought a year and a day ago exactly have died, so the front garden looks a bit bare. Will try to resurrect them tomorrow!

I've been part of the SIG putting this together. We're keen to pinpoint some key areas for improvement of the developer experience when introducing OTel. Please share your thoughts so we can kick off 2025 with some things we can work on across #OpenTelemetry.

#Elasticsearch 8.17 has been released and here are some of my favorite features the team has delivered: the logsdb index mode, the new Elastic rerank model and full-text search support for ES|QL. ⤵️

Won another CI battle today. Slowly ticked off the things causing failures. Tests are now green!!
